....anybody here play or any good at chess.....this bit of news today caught my attention about Bobby Fischer.

I seem to recall Ossie Ardiles was a keen player.

I saw that but on the Beeb website.  Quality story.

He actually said the attacks on the US were a good thing.  It's time to finish off the states once and for all, I believe he said on a Phillipines radio station.

I haven't played chess for years, used to love a game back in the day.  My Mrs likes the game too so she says, so I might have to purchase the equipment and give her the hiding of her life!!

Did anyone watch those matches between Kasparov and the IBM computer a few years back (think it was called deep blue or something like that)?  It was really good!

Presumably you can play internet chess somehow......not that I've tried.  I used to play as a kid into my youth, but then not seriously so I'm probably worse now then when I was 15.

I assume you can, i'll have to have a look, never really looked before!  I have a chess game on my phone that i play at work and apart from that got a computer chess at home and a normal chess board!  I know there are some really advanced computer-based versions that you can buy but they are not cheap!

It was often said that chess being a game essentially of domination and logic, wasn't suited to women, which explained why there weren't many women grandmasters. Which is of course crap.....Judit Polgar (sp) was decent a few years back.

I used to have a program for the Spectrum which I've still got in working order......what I didn't like about it was the need to translate my 3D tactile programming to the machines 2D presentation.

You still got an old spectrum?  Which one?  I used to have a few old spectrums etc.  In fact it was on an old spectrum that i wrote my first ever computer program, took hours just to write a football game and then when you turned it off you lost it!   Crying

Yes, well.....before we all turn into computer geeks.....a great story.  I know nothing about chess but the Bobby Fischer story has got to be turned into a film surely?
