Be a man and attempt to fix it yourself with only household items as tools.

I suggest you get it fixed because

a) you love it

b) it's an MG and no-one will want it if you try and trade it in

Or is it the 2.5 V6?

If it sounds smooth and raucous then it will be a V6.

OK

Picked the car up today, and the reason it needs a new head gasket is because it is leaking coolant on the front L/H/ side of the engine compartment.

This is exactly the fault that I have just spent £440.00 having a water pump fitted to cure.

Titcombes now want another £1500.00 to complete the work.

I have told them to fuck off, and that I have just spent a shitload of money and my motor is in exactly the same state as before the work was done, but my bank balance is not.

I am fucking angry

I have decided to get the work done as I really love the car, I got offered £7k trade in against an Astra SRI today, but put the two cars up against eachother and there is no comparison

Need to shop around now for someone to do the head gasket

Get it fixed. but don't pay for the cost of the labour stripping it back down to the water pump.

Any decent garage would've seen the gasket had gone or at least tested for it if the water pump was broken. At that point they should have replaced the gasket at the same time the head was off.

Therefore you shouldn't have to pay labour for them to strip it down to get to the cylinder head (and you could probably also argue putting it back together as well). I'd only offer to pay for the gasket to be replaced.

You are correct about their not being a comparison, they are both absolute bobbins.  Wink
