If you're going to let them have original material, try and copyright it in some way (like sending the original DAT to yourself by registered post then shoving it in a bank)  That way if you have got a killer song or riff they won't be able to rip it off.  Good luck fella

That's good advice for anything creative you come up with, ever. Be it music, a book, film. Send yourself a copy by registered post and keep it somewhere safe. That way you've got proof of date that you came up with it.

Yup and don't open the envelope obviously

Had an email back. Seems ligit, yet they haven't told me the full details yet. A dude called Scott's gonna ring me apparently. Probably at some obscure time of the night. Damn Americans and their time difference

Ah cool... the actress hands label?? Appreciate that Yeovil, thanks. I'll see what the outcome of the phone call is and then maybe you can advise me on whether it seems a reasonable way to go. I know there's gonna be fees involved.  :?

Skratch have on online mag at:

www.skratchmagazine.com

which looks legit. It seems like it's been going long enough and the print version has a run of 400,000 copies.

There's some stuff on the promo cd's  that they produce and their band directory at:

www.skratchmagazine.com/hey-bands/heybands.php

They've done 30 odd of them so I'd guess it's not a complete rip off. It does sound like the sort of affair that there's a fee for though:

1. 5000 total cds pressing
2. Your band/label gets 10 cds
3. Free ad in The Warped Guide (35,000 magazines)
4. 350 cds get mailed to record labels It does cost. This is a promo cd.

Deadline pending:
Call 714 639 5000 and ask for the Sampler Dept.
Or email "ATTN COMP" to: Ads@skratchmagazine.com

Send your music for potential submission to and include all contact info with ph# to:
Skratch SAMPLER v.35 CD CONDSIDERATION
1537 W. Orangewood Ave Orange, CA 92868

Thats good finding Lumps. I saw this website late last night and you're right it all seems ligit. They don't mention the fees though, and when I enquired about it, they said someone would ring me. My guess is it's a fair whack. I've been trying to find evidence of some sort of scam or bad stories from people who've used this, but as of yet nothing which is a good sign.
