I love Shane Meadows films, apart from Once Upon a Time In The Midlands, that was pretty shite.  I read an interview with him somewhen where he was talking about growing up with skinheads in his home Uttoxeter, and about how he idealised them until he saw first hand how vicious they could be.  He has that knack of making his characters seem very realistic because he's writing about what he knows.
