not sure if you know much about x64bit operating systems but i've just purchased XP Pro x64bit and was wondering if i can still run 32bit programs?

Like my McAfee is only 32bit.
i assumed it would work ok but not sure now

32bit applications should run ok, your only issues will probably come from windows explorer extensions with 32 bit software e.g. if a 32 bit software program has a context menu (when you right click on a file).

So I think it will work, but you might get an issue if you want to right click on a file and select "scan with McAfee" from the menu. There are ways to fix this I believe and if you're lucky it won't either be an issue or McAfee will have patched it. If not a registry edit should get around the problem.

cheers Si.

Was toying with the idea of Vista but i'll wait a while yet until they sort the bug fixes etc.

x64 should speed up my system too. Especially now as i have 4gig 667mhz ram running though it

Any problems PM me and I'll find a fix.

I'm looking to build a dual processor machine soon as well, so it'll be interesting.

Whilst we're on the subject, I've got shed loads of disk space on my computer, but Footie manager's never the fastest. Whats the best way to speed it up ad how much will it cost?

I have the computer knowledge of a 3 year old child.

What spec is your computer?
If you don't know right click on my computer and select properties. It should tell you your spec in the bottom of the window that pops up.

In the meantime scan for spyware/adware/viruses and defragment your hard drive.

in addition to si's answer it also depends what processes/applications you have running, i found with 256mb ram i had to close down all my processes, i couldnt user WMP or MSN at the same time, since upgrading to a GIG of ram i can do all 3 at a comfortable speed.

 How can you still run a PC on 256mb these days? That's stone age technology!

Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, 512 MB of RAM (this means nothing to me)

How much does more RAM cost, worth it? is it easy to put in?

For another 512mb your looking at about £50 depending on where you go.

It's piss easy to install, just pop the lid off the PC, whack the RAM into the motherboard and that's it!
