This is apprently the reason Hi.
Registered to maybe shed some light on this as I've seen it come up on other forums and everone is nonplus about it.
From what I hear, this is related to someone hanging a flag of Northern/Turkish Cyprus at AG.
As you may know, the northern half of Cyprus is currently under illegal occupation after Turkey invaded in 1974.
Therefore it is rightly not a recognised country and so to create and wave a flag of this at a football game where a fair portion of the supporters are like myself Greek Cypriot can be seen as both offensive and insensitive.
I personally did not complain to AFC about this, but saw the flag whenver I've been this season and after finding out it was the 'flag' of northern Cyprus felt a little angry that this muppet was allowed to wave the flag of an illegal country.
I doubt for one minute any Greek gooner would be offended by ANY flag of the world being waved around AG, very far from it. But having that particualr flag waved in our faces is a bit like someone laughing at us, goading us: 'we've got your land and your houses, so naaaaaahhhhhh...'
Politics and football should never mix and so why should the Greek Arsenal fans have to have a painful and touchy subject thrown in their faces when they want to support their team and escape from the bullshit in the world for 90 mins?
I hope I've put my point across lucidly and don't want to come across as a PC moron. I'm a chilled out bloke who doesn't really follow politics and isn't really offended by anything, but seeing that flag even irked me and so that says something.
I think AFC have gone too far in banning all flags, but if the guy waving this flag doesn't realise how much in bad taste it was, he must be on the wind up and like I said earlier, football and politics should never mix.
Thanx.

What next banned from wearing your clubs football shirts to grounds. Just in case you upset the other teams fans. For fucks sake its a flag, I understand the implications of it in cyprus as i was stationed there in the late 80's. This is E.N.G.L.A.N.D if I want to be P.A.T.R.I.O.T.I.C I will be. And cant we be proud of showing our colours even if the country is not even real.......Scotland and Wales do

What has a turkish cyproit flag got to do with a St Georges cross? Little, but now-a-days, everyone seems to hold an all or nothing attitude. The flag itself is offensive and it's easier to police what flags are allowed and what aren't (christ that sounds PC!) if they say non are allowed. TBH though, it's gay, just ban that flag and pay for a sniper to remove the offender.
