Article in todays Football League Paper:

'Wycombe striker Toomy Mooney is a surprise contender to replace Dennis Wise as Swindon manager.
Veteran Mooney, who spent a year at the County Groundin 2003-04 and his 19 League goals helped them into the League One play-offs.
The former Watford and Birmingham strikerleft Swindon at the end of the season after falling out with then manager Andy King.
Mooney is the Swindon Board's first choice to succeed Wise should caretaker Manager Ady Williams fail.'

Methinks maybe Money's 'chat' with Board members after the away game at Wycombe, was something more and the Board had already resigned themselves to losing Wise to Leeds..............

I stated last week that they met Mooney to talk about a player managers role, of course it wasnt to say thanks for 2 years ago.

I thought it was likely that they were talking to him with a view to him returning as a player, but I must admit that at the time I thought Wise was an honourable bloke who'd stick by what he'd previously said.
How naive am I?

NEW BOYS TO CUT A DAISH AT SWINDON
SWINDON could replace ex-boss Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet with two of Britain's leading young coaches.

Liam Daish and No.2 Alan Kimble have turned Conference paupers Gravesend around in 18 months, impressing a host of top clubs.

The duo both played over 800 matches for the likes of Birmingham and Wimbledon.

Swindon would only have to pay peanuts as both Daish and Kimble's contracts run out in the summer.

Only if he's player manager, if he played for us yesterday we would have won about 3-0

Hmmm.... Interesting.

Would Mooney take it? I think he would. Whether it's with us or someone else Mooney could become a good manager.

But would he ever become accepted by the fans again?

If he played this season and scored goals, yes

As I said, Wycombe, Boston, Notts County, Accrington, Lincoln all would have been 3 points with Mooney upfront

I totally agree... I wouldn't bemoan Mooney's return. Yes, he commited the ultimate sin but that hardly went well in the end and we've not recovered since he left.

I cannot believe I'm saying this - if his name was sung from the Townend it would epitomise everything bad about fickle football fans - but purely for his goals this season, I'd take him back.

Saying that, you can bank on the fact he'd have King as no2.

i have a begruding respect for him. wholehearted striker who scores goals, genuinely loves the game and playing it, admitted that oxford was a waste of his time and he was a bit good for us too.

yet i still hate him.

i don't think i'd be upset if we appointed him as player/manager. he's the sort of man who will make a decent manager for a lower-league club.

I think you'll find he thinks King is a complete wanker.
