Plus, if you managed to get to cardiff, you could buy me a beer, or judging from my popularity on this site, smack me round the head.  Sonic would love you for it!

Cardiff is a good uni, I'm quite sad to be leaving soon.  A few of my mates here got in despite not getting their grades, they have a reputation for being quite flexible, so I reckon its definitely worth giving them a call.

yeah it is a good uni. i worked with someone last year while the ashes was on and he said it was a very good uni. My mate is at brimingham uni and is loving it.

i need them to get into uni you fat freak.

So?

If you dont get the grades you need to go to one uni, you go to another one instead. meeeeh.

Same point will apply. In a few years no-one will care what uni you went to - or to an extent what course you did, unless like i said you have something specific in mind for a career.

I think you couldn't be further from the truth. As more go to uni then the uni you go to will matter more. The course can be irrelevant most of the time though, even with a specific career. In fact it was pointed out to me when I started my course that choosing Accounting & Finance to go into an accounting career was a bit of a silly option. If I got a 2:2 it would have been very difficult to get a job in accounting. Whereas if I did an easier course like management science I could have still gone into accounting. Luckily I got my 2:1.

Good luck to those getting their results and well done to those who already have.

As I've said all along, my comments depend on what you want to do for a career. Accounting is a specified profession with set qualifications that are required for career progression, (certified etc) so is different from many other jobs that dont require formal qualifcations to be gained to move up the ladder.

I'm speaking from my own experience, I didnt go to uni and it hasnt hurt my career at all currently. The only thing that did was pure lazyiness on my part after leaving college. Other peoples experiences may be different.

In a totally different point, I'm amazed you want to be an accountant Sipie - you seem to have a personality. I deal with them fairly regually and I dont think I've come across one with a personality yet. Its a stereotype, but its seems to be true.

Well done dex.

agree with si pi - for the majority of decent jobs, a-levels matter a tiny bit, what uni you went to matters alot and the course barely matters at all. they're looking at the qualification nowadays, and proof that you can learn to a certain standard (in whatever subject).

Well I'll be doing auditing so you need good social skills. It's one of the youngest most vibrant professions around (unless severly small time old school accounting types). But it will be boring as fuck.

Your point about uni makes sense, but there isn't any sense in going to uni now unless you want to go into something specific or work in a certain field because it costs way too much. I wasn't going to go to uni but start work doing my AAT qualification and then move on up to ACA standard which is what I'll be doing shortly. The abysmal starting salary for the AAT trainee against 3 years of bumming around is what swayed me to go to uni though.

I fucking hate auditors

All they ask us is "Have you documented this?", "Where have you recorded that" etc. We could do absolutely anything, as long as it was documented properly.

What did DMR get - he's keeping quiet.

My daughter needed A B B to read English at Sheffield.  She got A A C (and one of the A's, in psychology, was done in a year) but they have rejected her.

Spoke to the admissions tutor - she advised that they dont operate a points system (AAC > ABB) so she suggested my daughter should have taken General Studies where most people are nailed on to get at least a B, and they would have accepted that!

Perverse!

It's a funny thing. The public want to be protected from Parmalat and Enron type scandals so standards and practicises get even more rigorous. As a consequence auditors have to be bigger cunts or they are more likely to end up in court.

The irony is that it's costing businesses more and it's debatable whether it offers any more protection against fraud. If people want to defraud a business and are clever about it, they won't get caught for a significant amount of time.

cardiff is shit because:

-its full of the welsh
-its quite a pikey city full of craig bellamys
-saturday nights are a no-go in the city centre unless you want a bottling
-the student area is purely students/the poor, and the poor welshies hate the students
-my mate had his vw golf keyed for being a student
-polish prostitutes for neighbours (although this could be a + for some) who play shit music
-not a blade of grass apart from in parks
