Does anyone else have this? Being a student we've got one of those top up boxes in our house. Electricity ran out last night (even though it said there was 26p left on it) so I topped it up this morning. However, the money hasn't shown up as being added. The fuses haven't gone as I checked them this morning. Any suggestions what it could be causing the problem, as nothing will turn on or work? Tried ringing the landlady but shes on holiday at the moment so i'm pretty much living in the library at the moment.

Isn't there a button you can press that puts it onto emergency or something, then the credit should re-appear?
I've never had this, but know people that have and there seemed to be some switch on the box where you put the "key"

That's what's supposed to happen in theory but the box doesn't seem to register the money i've topped up or the emergency credit, and is still saying 26p, despite money being added to it.

I deal with these at work, put the key in and check it clicks and says accepted. If it doesnt teh key has goen wrong. If it does say accepted yet the money doesnt come on take it back to teh shop and they will re top up.
If its the key thats playing up you need to contact teh supplier of electricity. They will send someoen out to do it asap if you say your sister is staying with her baby etc.
If you dont know who your supplier is email me your address and I can tell with the system at work.

A 'friend' of mine could use the spark from a particular type of lighter to add credit to our electricity key meter.. some times it only added pence on at a time.. some times pounds.. worth looking in to!

I can't stand top up electricity We had one when we moved in to our current house. One of the first things I did was get a meter installed so I can pay by direct debit. It doesn't cost anything to have a meter installed, so that might be an option for you.
