Has the world gone mad? From the bbc
Piara Powar, national co-ordinator for the anti-racism group Kick It Out told Five Live, said: "If there was a racial slur then Fifa needs to act."
Keith Hackett, head of referees in England, said that if it can be proved that Matterazzi racially abused the Frenchman, then Fifa should take retrospective action for "the good of the game."
So are these two saying that insulting someone is worse than headbutting someone in the chest. Words are more of an issue than violence?
What ever happen to the primary school reply of sticks and stones may break my bones.....
Fucking hell, in about 50 years the average human is going to be a quivering pussy. Fucking grow a back bone, if someone calls you an irish tick cunt or welsh sheep shagging shit stabber, then you hit them because you take offence, the person who used a racist slur will be more frowned upon than the agressor.
Turn the other cheek brothers. Spot on.... We're becoming a generation of pussies. It's irrelevant what he said, Zizou's reaction is inexcusable within the laws of football. It's a none-event. I cannot believe the police are considering taking action against Zidane for the headbutt either! It's crazy.

Yeah but when I found out my dad was ill and if someone had said 'death to your family' I would be fucking livid.
At the end of the day I essentially agree, but when emotions run high in times like that it's hard not to lose it.

It's crazy. bollocks. if it was a racial slur which prompted the headbutt, it is quite right to investigate it. the racial slur is worse because it provoked the physical retribution.

So if someone said something about your mother, who you just found out was ill, you wouldn't be pissed off? Again, I do agree with the whole sticks and stones thing and am in no way saying ZZ had a right to do what he did (if that was indeed what Materazzi said to him) but I wouldn't blame the chap for doing it.

if I were Zidane...I would have kept my cool....won the world cup....then headbutted him whilst still holding the world cup....then I would have bashed him round the face with the world cup just to make a point.

Yeah but even if Materazzi wasn't aware (he clearly wouldn't have been) then it's still a pretty fucking horrible thing to say. Maybe I'm just being too sympathetic toward Zidane because I know what he's going through.

we've all been there Si....
....however, I expect losing in the World Cup final would have been more painful to Materazzi than the headbutt.....

to be honest you cant condone what zidane done but on the other hand if what he said was racist and it is proven then he should face punishment aswell.very hard to prove though

ZZ should not have done what he did, but in fairness, if anyone insults a persons family to such a degree that it incites such violence, then the person who instigates it should suffer as much punishment s the person who raises the first blow. If what Materazzi said was about ZZ's mother being a whore etc, then I am sure there is no-one here who can claim to not be offended if that as directed at themselves. Admittedly, he should have waited until after the match, but come on, if I said that to anyone on this forum face to face, who wouldnt want to nut me one? Also considiering ZZ has Algerian roots and to mention the word "Terrorist", its hardly likely ZZ would make a joke out of it.

FIFA need to bring out a new directive on this. Before any match all players should carry out research on their opponants family history. If any players are found to have relatives in hospital then please do not mention them.
Like Dave says, you hear about the sledging that goes on in cricket it's just as bad, does that mean that next time Gilchrists says something to Lara, Brian carry whack him round the head with his bat?
Fucking hell, for years now everyone's been winding up Posh and Becks about her taking it up the arse, in front of their kids, on occasions, they just ignore it. Best way to wind up a winder upper? Ignore it, win it and then rub their noses in it!

The whole debacle was good. Football is a mans game, and insults and violence should be more acceptable.
