Can you point me in the direction of some decent prog house please? Ive only ever really listened to Sasha, Diggers and James Zabiela...

Start at the beginning with some early prog house, pretty much anything on the Guerilla label and especially their Dub House Disco compilations. Never liked much of the later stuff myself, most of it is just wishy washy bollocks.

Junglist massive!

If you wanna talk decent DnB/Jungle intros here's a few...

Bad Company - The Nine
Krust - Warhead
Fugees - Ready Or Not (Zinc Remix)
Raiden - Fallin
Rawthang feat. Kari Rueslatten - Scorned
Dom & Optical - Quadrant 6
Concord Dawn - Morning Light
Counterstrike - Can't Let Go
Manifest - O.G Returns
Current Value feat. Snow - Edge of Dreams
Dillinja - Nasty Ways
Dillinja - It Ain't Too Loud
Dom & Roland - Can't Punish Me
Evil Intent - Middle of the Night
Fibre Optix - Sin
Muffler - Heaven
Loxy & Ink - Straight Up Menace
Calibre - Fire and Water
Netsky - I Refuse
STA & Paul B - Come Closer
The Baby Namboos - Ancoats 2 Zambia (Dillinja Remix)

Deliberately didn't mention any DnB in this thread before cos most people don't know these tunes but there you are. I fucking love it.

Also, does anyone else think the start of Nirvana - Negative Creep is really good?

Compilations? Or labels? Beatport is a good place to browse. And much to Jonny's joy I had a thing for Hope Recordings. Smiley

Yeah Valley of Shadows is an absolute classic. Great intro. Did you know that sample of the woman talking is from a documentary on near death experiences?

Both

I only buy records super sporadically now, so my finger is not on the pulse.

As I said above Beatport is good. And I have also found some great tunes listening to http://protonradio.com which can be superb.

Good compilations are most of the Global Underground series', Nick Warren, Hernan Cataneo, Bedrock compilations, Jimmy Van M, Pole Folder, Sander Kleinenburg, Danny Howells, Satoshi Tomiie, Luke Fair, Tom Middleton, Desyn Masiello, Jason Jollins, The WHOLE Northern Exposure Series and others.

I also like to include Sven Vath, Dave Clark, Richie Hawtin and a few more from the techno end of the scale as obviously prog isn't always "progressive house," but a mixture of proper prog, deep, minimal, tech, tribal tech, breaks and some of the more mild techno. There's also a fair portion of trance, although less from the acid and psy end of the scale and more the easy listening sort, but I think that sort of goes without saying.

Producers and labels of note would be many of those mentioned above, Sasha, obviously, Bedrock Records, Hope Recordings, Saw Recordings, Slacker, Guy Gerber, anything buy Van Bellen as he's godly, Automatic always did some good tunes, Hooj (sometimes ropey as hell), Steve Porter (some of his shit is fucking amazing, see Amber - Anyway), Fade Records, Additive (some ropey tunes, but some classics, check this for sexiness), heard alot of good stuff on Morrison Recordings (mp3 only I think) and others.

I could probably go on, but in all honesty I haven't actively kept abreast of what is great for ages, but tunes like those linked to above and, like most prog, are almost timeless.

Some classics for you. (in my opinion.)

Bedrock - Forge (Tom Middleton Remix)
La Forge - Second Contact
Pole Folder - Protected (One of the sexiest tunes ever)
Blendbrank - Synthetic Symphony
Breeder - New York FM (formerly Sputnik) - Van Bellen rmx
Sasha - Arkham Asylum
2 Amazing tracks of Jimmy Van M's Berock Compilation

I'll stop there. Smiley

Fuck I nearly forgot Way out West are the shit. Get their albums on Amazon. Their first, even now is fucking amazing, timeless and incredible.

I know fuck all about prog house but you mentioning Way Out West reminded me of this tune which is the only one of theirs I know. It deserves to be in this thread as the intro is amazing - very peaceful and euphoric (great to listen to on mdma).

It's a very long track, altho that's prob normal for the genre? Even the intro doesn't get going til about 1.10.

Typical of both the genre and Way out West. Which reminds me of some of the more main stream artists I forgot. Hybrid, Chemical Brothers and Underworld!
