Swindon Town boss Dennis Wise is hoping to arrange a pre-season friendly with Leeds United. The Robins manager, who is currently on holiday in Dubai, is good friends with Leeds chairman Ken Bates from their time together at Chelsea.

Swindon did not play a single Football League club under former boss Andy King last summer. Town played matches against Bideford, Taunton and Aylesbury United in preparation for a season that ended with relegation to League Two.

However, this time around the club is hoping to provide their players with a more testing schedule as they seek to bounce back up from the basement division at the first attempt.

Chief Executive Mark Devlin said: "There are clubs we are talking to and we hope to be able to announce some of the pre-season games in the next few days.

"Dennis Wise will be looking to pull a few strings but a lot of the bigger clubs, like Chelsea, are often away in different parts of the world at the times we are trying to arrange friendlies for.

"Ideally we would like to finish with a match against a Premiership or Championship club on the last Saturday before the new season begins (July 29). We have spoken to a few clubs and many are at the same stage as us, so it's a case of working out dates that fit each other.

"Dennis has spoken to Ken Bates about that (a game with Leeds) but there is no confirmation about whether or not they will be available yet."

Excellent, if that's at Elland Road I'll be able to make a weekend of it.

Plus I can always trawl up the bastard I've got a 1k on that we'll be playing Leeds in a competitive league game in the next ten years (now down to 5).

I'm going up to Leeds at the end of July.

Would be a good friendly to have, we'll probably get hammered.

Of course it wont be played at Elland Road, the bigger clubs usually play Away in these cases.

Robocrouch is pretty good, if he scores in the World Cup he'll have to invent so alternative moves.
