Arguably, if the team play like they did for 45 minutes on Saturday, tactics don't matter, but what should be the strategy?

First half, 4:5:1, battle and contain.
Second Half: 4:4:2, keep the ball on the deck, use the wings.

Should Stroud be given a go in the second half.  Given that Peacock is not fully fit, should Cureton be given the loan striker's role, with Peacok coming on at half time.  Should the reserve striker with the unpronouncable name be given twenty minutes from the start to unsettle Swansea?

Alternatively, should it be 3:5:2 and go at them from the start?

Swansea have to be knocked out of their stride, how is this going to be done, other than the obvious that each player has to put in a confident 110% effort.

Think we've tried just about every combination this season away from home....none seems to have worked.....trying to avoid another Forest and so preserve the goal difference seems to be the best policy.

Reg,

If we are that bad we should be going down, relegation is well deserved.  Sounds like we have to battle and frustrate and keep ten players behind the ball, .....with the aim of getting the home support on their own team's backs.

This afternoon, there's some rather outspoken postings on the Adver board,  I am not sure anyone has any hope in a battling performance.  Unless things change many belive we are heading for the Conference, assuming survival at all.

it's got to be a simple 4-4-2 and go for it from the start. even if peacock is not fully fit, i'd start him after scoring yesterday.

unfortunately reg is pretty much spot on. it could be another horrible defeat on the cards.

I'm firmly of the school of thought that next season will be a fight for retaining league status.....Torquay could have stayed up last season on the last day....lost a couple of key players in Russell and Akinfenwa, but kept a good young manager.

The chairman Bateson though has always believed in not spending on wages, and so recruits were of the standard of Matt Hewlett.  This has cost them, especially losing Constantine mid season.

We will lose 3 or 4 and they wont be replaced with anything other than kids or loans..its frightening.

So because it happened to Torquay it's gonna happen to us? Fuck off is it. We wont know till next season and we see what team we have.

Frustrate Swansea for as long as possible. Dive whenever anyone touches us (hey, worked for Hartlepool). Whatever it takes to get some points.

Sadly, I think you are correct, I recall Manchester United playing reserves in the cup and having trouble with Exeter.  Also, Wycombe gave us a soccer lesson in the League Cup.  I don't think that the standard in Div II is much different to that in Div I.  The teams coming up from Div I, recently, have done well.

Tuesday could go one of three ways (no shit),  We could either do a Nottingham Forest and get completley pissed upon, Or with the help of the gods we get a spunky 1-0 win in the dying seconds with the ball bouncing off benjamins nose.

However as Swansea are incredibly well supported, Evans willl have a torrid time as he cannot play in front of a big crowd and nor can any of our players for that matter, so i feel another Forest on the cards, however i will be there supporting the lads, which is all we can do at the moment.

It is a worry.

Swansea, Southend, Hartlepool, Hull, Plymouth, Donny, Brighton have all come up from league two and done very well.

I've said it before clubs in league two look to have generally got their houses in order after the ITV digital collapse.  There’s not a great financial gap and you only have to look at the Conference and the sides coming up nowadays to see that there’s a real danger.

With the transfer market quite an open gambit these days it’s possible to put together a promotion winning team with astuteness and not breaking the bank in the process.  Grimsby being a good example who were close to pinching Whalley from under our noses in the summer.

The key is retaining what we have but even then is that going to be good enough?

On current evidence you have to wonder.  Iffy is going to have to be brutal in the summer and try and re-build around what he has left.  From those that have signed with a few decent additions we could have a side that should secure mid-table security.

Can anybody fill me in on the current contract status of some of the players? I'm talking about the ones we might actually want to keep.

Peacock I thought had an 18 month contract? Cureton?

I honestly don't think we'll be struggling next year, whatever division we are in. But I must admit, I'm not sure Iffy has the correct qualities that are required.

Seems to me that contacts are so important. Any success under King was down to Sam Parkin, and any decent loan signings we got in. The guy seemed to be friendly with some big managers in the Prem, and got us the likes of Davis, Milner, Holmes etc.

Now being a young manager, with contacts seemingly at Watford and Wendy, I hope he can cut it when it comes to wheeling and dealing, or we may well be stuffed.

PS - If we lose players, and they are replaced with ones who actually give a shit, I'm all for it.

Our record under Iffy isn't too bad this season, and remember the first 3 or 4 games where we only picked up a point he was still adjusting Kings team.

10 losses
8 wins
12 draws

30 games – 36 points.

1.2 points per game.

A more experienced manager would be better for a fight next season, but Iffy deserves another crack.
