What he said.

The 'big boys' are probably as good as any as far as I can see. Nationwide and Halifax are as good as any and better than most. I am also told Halifax are about the quickest at giving a decision whereas Nationwide are amongst the slowest.

Problem is unless you're earning big bucks or you have a huge deposit then getting a big enough mortgage is going to be a problem.

Northern Rock and Alliance and Liecester will lend you loads of money even if you're only earning a crap wage (not that i'm saying you do).

I'm paying £260 in rent a month. I think for an extra £40 it would be well worth buying a house.

Nothing. But Spuddy was on about sharing with his mrs, so I was applying it to that case (in terms of sharing). The house I rent at the moment isn't exactly the ritz

And here was I thinking you'd be living in a top floor penthouse apartment for that money.  Times have changed since I lived in the Shire of Wilt!

Where abouts do you live? I spent a few years renting in the Westcott Place /  Albion Street area. It was ok. I used to go in the Greyhound mainly, The Falcon occasionally and The Grapes every Friday early doors. The Grapes was utterly appalling but an ice cold pint of Guiness at 5.00pm on a Friday tastes beautiful wherever you are and it was just round the corner.

I'm in Southampton (I'm a student). Not sure what I'm doing at the end of this year. I will probably move back to swindon in with the folks for a while until I build up some money.

Depends if I find a job down here or in Swindon I guess.
