I think Woodward would make an excellent director of football where he had total control regarding higher level decisions and had a team of coaches working under him on the more day-to-day aspects.

 That's seems to be his favoured modus operandi....but in lower league football, who could afford the battery of coaches etc.

 Bit like when Diaz was at the scum he had a staff of 7 with him.

Which is probably why Woodward is not suited to lower division football because it is debateable whether the resources are there to allow his style of management to flourish.

  I did think this might have been a runner when Mooney mania was at its zenith....but Sir Clive is also a businessman...might be able to put a few rockets up a few arses on SBC.

 Also he could talk knight to knight with Sir Seton.

I think that Swindon Town would be ideally suited to SCW. He has worked at a small club (London Irish) as a coach prior to moving to the England job. They have always been a low budget team.

He knows how to get the best out of players, bringing through young players like Declan Dannaher whilst constrained by the tight budget at London Irish, and turning good players into World Champions.

He also knows how to get the best out of coaches... The same group of England coaches who now face the sack, managed to help win the world cup under SCW.

The only possible downsides that I can think of are:

Arrogance: The Lions tour should have sorted that out!
Wants to be in control: This should not be a problem at Swindon, since it is often difficult to tell just who (if anyone) is in control at the moment.

To be honest, he's good at getting a bunch of blokes on a field to do something with an inflated bit of leather. To make the transition to football, he'll need to get a bunch of blokes on a field to do something slightly different with a slightly different inflated bit of leather... I don't imagine that a man like him would find that transition too difficult.

In fact, I think that a slightly different background would probably yield a fresh approach and new ideas to the game, and would be an advantage if anything.
