....just noticed that Rugby League has got a new team, based in Perpignan..no doubt stuffed full of Aussies.

They're obviously tilting a bit at Catalan nationalism....Barcelona being a prime example...historic Catalonia spanned the present border between France and Spain.

Rugby League was once very popular in France, but was shat on from a great height by the Vichy governmant who banned it and seized the assets, with the connivance of the Union establishment.....League was thought the game of workers and Socialists....Union... toffs and collaborators.

They tried before with Paris..but it was never that popular there in the same way football wasn't.

Workington v Paris......at RL has to be one of the great sporting mismatches.

Be interesting to see how they go.

The team is indeed full of Aussies, but it didn't help them beat the mighty Reds last week Smiley their big signing Stacey Jones broke his arm last week so he will be out for a while. They are also exempt from relegation for a couple of seasons too.
I think its a good idea, spreading rugby league through the world Wink

to help the development of rugby league across the world. 12 nations or so competing in a sport is good but more the better. same reason why denmark, ireland and scotland will be in our c&g trophy this year
