Always enjoyed a visit to Longs or Mckenzie's for the early drinks.  Unfortunately though, Swindon is home to either cheap and cheesey or pretentious on the whole.  The middle ground simply does not exist.  I quite liked Bar Cuba for a few drinks and shots but Arkells decided having a popular Town Centre pub wasn't working out for them and changed it back to the Flag.

Yes  chavvy retards down the bottom of town, fun-boy wankers with mullets up old town.

Someone should start a nightlife scene halfway up vic hill that caters for blokes who aren't pikeys or ponces

When in Swindon we stick to a well thought out plan

Start with a round in The Groves (cheap)
Head to Yates (pool)
Meet main group in Walkabout
Find some wanky overpriced club (normally Bedroom)

perhaps some expansion is needed because i find swindon quite dull at the moment

I was aiming that more at the longs clientel Reg, rather than the wheatsheaf

Oh right.....an occasional drinker in the Wheatsheaf....although it was my regular for a few years.

Last time I was in Long's my mate had an altercation with Ruddock.....who seemed to think he should get served in front of him.  Ruddock was mulletless, though obnoxious.

Ruddock is a total prick-far too inflated opinion of himself-always has had.

Think old town might be getting a bit of a bad rap here.

The steam is ace and relatively cheap. Always have a good selection of beers on and it's separated up enough to cover your needs from a quiet drink to a loudly shouting at the football night, although it's no smoking in the family room.

I like soda but it's the sort of place you want to go with a fair few mates so it's easier to have a laugh if it's dead. Still probably my favourite club in swindon though.

Wheatsheaf is worth a shout although it's expensive compared to the steam. Worth going in and saying hello to charlie though.

Quite often end up going to the goddarms arms (think the bar has it's own name now), it tends to be empty and pool is only 50p.

Pipers also has the advantage of 50p pool (last time I checked). Used to go there loads, think it's died off a bit now though.

I really miss the crosskeys, proper bargain. £1 drinks monday, £1 jsmith / fosters tue/fri, £1.25 drinks wed+thur. If that's right then I'm suprissed by my memory. It was a good few years ago.

.....continued....

Beehive is a nice pub, can be a bit expensive though.

Not really old town but the gluepot is pretty ace, same goes for the check inn.

Back to old town and I think the castle deserves a mention, Irish pub from what I rmemeber. Has 2 pool tables and an old school footy arcade machine in the corner for 10p a game.

think that's the  good ones covered. it turned into pub review more that anything else. A lot of old town pubs not worth mentioning (Clifton, Globe, George, etc.) Think I've missed out a few ok ones though.
