Unfortunately for me I've got a group of mates who like to do nothing other than get absolutely fucking wasted and head down-town to places like Walkabout and Edwards.

This sometimes makes me want to kill myself.

I find myself necking half a bottle of vodka before we go out just so I have no conditions as to where we go other than they must serve alcohol.

This isn't healthy.

What's going on at other places these days?

Is Soda any good?
Does Po Na Na still exist?
Is Studio strictly black music these days?

Any recommendations? I don't like places too pretentious.. just wanna have a good time, a few drinks and some half decent music.

No Rap DnB or cheesey disco bollocks.

Thanks in advance.

Last Friday I was in The Spot.....bit of a DJ, but seemed quite mainstream although I wasn't really listeming being more interested by a bird with a low cut top on.

Didn't strike me as too pretentious....although  I'm really a spit and sawdust man.

Nothing spectacular just an OK atmosphere.

Po Na Na is still running.

Always enjoyed a visit to Longs or Mckenzie's for the early drinks.  Unfortunately though, Swindon is home to either cheap and cheesey or pretentious on the whole.  The middle ground simply does not exist.  I quite liked Bar Cuba for a few drinks and shots but Arkells decided having a popular Town Centre pub wasn't working out for them and changed it back to the Flag.

might I recommend a trip out of town ?

I hear Purton has a wide selection of venues with a varied music scene ranging from the Irish jig to death metal........ :|

Bar cuba was indeed the best pub in the bottom of town.

I like the wheatie in Old Town and then onto Soda, although it was dead last time I went. Mckenzies and Longs are too pretentious for me.

I think this has happened to friends of mine too.
Shame really, they tried to stay away from cheese most of the times I was there, and the introduction of the Hookah pipes was genius.
The crowd was a little more mature there as well.

I can't help thinking if I went to the apartments I'd end up nutting some flashy cunt who though he was better than me because he drives an M3.

Any news on the Soda front?

We fucking need Mex Red down here ASAP!

Oh well, walkabout it is then..

The Wheatie is a good pub.

Soda on saturday is Indie night. It was quiet when i went a couple of weeks ago and I'm too old to recognise any of the music. When i asked the DJ for Shed Seven he just looked at me with a blank look on his face!

Saturday night Soda will be your best bet.  That's still not saying it's good, but its by far the best choice. £2.50 for a pint, which in Old Town is good. It'll probably be dead quiet though, as its not very well advertised.

Walkabout is the best of a bad bunch down-town.
