Well, yes and no. The BBC has another year of rights to the highlights after the end of the season so they might want to make their own show rather than buy in the independent, and largely crap, Football League Show.

Don't think they do - new TV deal kicks in next season and no one has bought the free to air highlights yet.

It's a pity the BBC don't invest more in the Football League. The PL highlights rights cost them £171m over three years, whilst the FL live rights (75 games including the playoffs, League Cup and JPT) cost Sky £195m over three years. Think the FL package would be a pretty good deal for the BBC as it would give them a couple of games live a week and the highlights plus some of the best games come the end of the season.

Be better if the BBC left the precious prem to Sky and focused their attention on the  three leagues that more people support than all the prem clubs put together!

Never happen though unless they have to pay so much they are priced out of the market - plus the government interferes as usual insisting Sky don't have a monopoly.

Yep, Johnny is right, I was wrong. Last year of rights for the Beeb. With the massive cuts imposed by this government getting them back won't be much of a priority, but then ITV won't be keen either. Be almost a race not to win them. Even Channel 5 are aiming even lower at the moment...

As per my previous post the full FL live rights wouldn't have cost much more than the PL highlights. The BBC would have got a massive amount of extra live football, including all the playoffs and two cup finals, which would have pretty good viewing figures given the quality and support especially for the Championship clubs.

I reckon the BBC could have got the FL rights a lot cheaper by offering their resources to promote the FL, such as pushing season ticket and match day ticket deals via their website, radio and tv shows. Which would work out well for everyone.

A bit of math for what its worth
Average Premier League Atendances (This season) = 646k
Average Attendance of Champ/L1/L2 combined = 645k

These are approximations, and thats not counting the plastic armchair supporters.

Not a lot, as it happens.
