When I went there it was full of pisshead dossers with their dogs. Its actually alright but there are a load of wasters there - more than most other places I've been to
Last stop on the train

Oh and despite it's reputation for under age drinkers - Newquay for the festival season (between the 28th July - 10th August) is where it's at if you like to party, enjoy music festivals, enjoy skating/surfing competitions, like to surf, watch bikini competitions, and generally like the festival atmosphere! I've just got back from Newquay (didn't stay for the music fest this year, as the line up was crap), and it was bloody brilliant!

Last time I was in Penzance, got off the train, had a beer in a pub by the station, and started cycling back to Swindon. Not sure there's much to do there.
Couldn't you wait for them to refuel with coal and water Reg?

I'd have been as happy as a pig in shit, to have gone down there on something like the Cornish Riviera Express, unfortunately think it was a Class 47...or maybe 50. Still could stick the bike in the guard's van with no problems. 125's were around then, but there was still some diesel haulage.

I went down to Penzance a couple of times in the mid seventies behind Westerns. Bloody ace. Still available to enjoy on the West Somerset between Taunton and Minehead.

The term 'fixed wing' always makes me chuckle.
Yes I do know what the term means, but it still makes me wonder: "What if they weren't fixed on, they might fall off"
The 'fixed wing' bit seems important to Formula One teams at the moment: http://www.espn.co.uk/formula1/sport/story/36939.html

Class 52 Westerns nice bit of kit....beware though only the early numbers were Swindon built, the later batch moving to Crewe... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y154/Reg__Smeeton/52_line_up.jpg 2 on the left Swindonians....revisiting their Laira home. Oh and the West Somerset is mega ace....full steam ahead for Stogumber.
