Title: Fans at the Ćôųńŧy ground
Post by: Jimmy HaveHave on Saturday, December 5, 2020, 17:38:52
Will the 2000 fans be made to sit two metres apart against Fleetwood

Will they be made to face the pitch is the more pressing question.

Good point😁
The reason I asked was because they didn't at Reading this afternoon

Luton had fans looking like they were closer than I would have imagined in their midweek game too.

Arsenal has them spread out in midweek and it looked odd seeing the same distance between them around the stadium

Fuck me, that’s unbelievable. What’s the point if all 2000 can seat cheek by jowl.

I was assuming that they would be 'socially distanced' in the crowd. ie Each person sat 2m from the next.

Surely that must be a gross misreading of the regulations? Can't be within the rules?

TBF it may be a slightly misleading picture, seen this before where the photo "collapses" distances due to perspective (bamboo can probably explain this). This is from the BBC website from today, clearly shows spacing between fans

No need for me to explain. You were pretty much bang on the money Paul. Even though the "spacing" is evident in the image, it still doesn't look very "social distancey".

Anything on an angle or parallax will generally always make things look closer together. Depth of field is used this way in photography to create interesting and slightly abstract images where you may have an object in focus, in the fore, mid and background. Usually a longer focal length and the angle of inclination will bring about this forced perspective.

Of course, it can also be used in media publications to make celebs look like they were seen out together or for "shocking" stories of fans being too close together. Many lap it up because we live in a fast disposable world, so won't take a moment to have a second look or consider why the image was used. There also is the matter that there will always be a story to be made from any image - which also gives us a reminder of how opinions can be independent or forced depending on how that story is initially led.

Well described Boo and based on that photo they may as well try and get all 2000 in the DRS and no need to open the Town end

Assuming clubs want to have supporters back, I am sure that they will do whatever they can to get it right.

I'm not sure, we're having to go at under 15% of our grounds capacity (@2k into 15k). With the DRS holding around 5k, 2k in the one stand would be 40% full (probably not far off what it usually is tbh). At 2.5k it would see a fan in every other seat so I think that they might not be able to meet social distancing requirements. The TE will have to be used.

Ideally the one side would be best for operating costs. I think the spacing is technically 1 fan every three seats (bubbles aside) so in seating plans that means only having 25% available for use (in the DRS), c1.25k which probs gives a bit of wiggle room for any bubble attendees. Maybe seeing that to c1.5k. That leaves the TE (cap c1.9k) at 25% use, c475 which again allows wiggle room for a few bubbles etc.

I'm sure that all clubs are following the guidance they are being giving to make safe for their fans to spectate. The issue was more regarding the perspective and parallax that an image taken go offer to the viewer.

As with anything though, devil is in the detail (or lack of). Any company worth their salt will always look at guidelines or restrictions, not for what they can't do but for what isn't written. Lawyers in F1 do it all the time, no reason why Football Clubs wouldn't take a similar view and/or approach too.

I appreciate that the immediate comments concerned whether the camera lies.  I suggested that it does in this instance

The current position with football is slightly different to whether a wing on a car can be raised by a couple of millimetres.  I understand your point but I query whether clubs will be looking to 'bend the rules' so to speak.  If the optics are not good and it looks like there is non compliance, the consequences could be significant.

Apologies for the scrutiny JBZ but nowhere on this thread have you suggested this. A bit of glorification going on there. Expect better from a poster of such esteem and accuracy in your writings.

Oh come off it, clubs and especially in Professional Football are always looking to "bend the rules" as you put it. This scenario is no different. I think we're all aware that there is likely more corruption in footy than F1. At every Pro level. Where there is a way, I'm sure they'll try. We don't have to look too far from SN1 to realise this. It would be naive to think anything less.

NB:
Just for clarification "bending the rules" could be something like suggested - trying to get the 2k into one stand, thus only having operating costs for one stand. Possibly covering their asses by saying that "xyz" fans were part of their bubble of six. A situation a bit more difficult for the EFL to disprove.

The club have already said fans will be in both TE and DRS, you choose which you'd prefer when requesting to be put in the ballot

No I know this Paul. It was just an example as previously JQ had mentioned about the possibility of getting the 2k into only the DRS. I explained it would be difficult as seating plan for "covid secure" would be around 1 every 3 (excusing bubbles) so gives you upto 25% to play with in each stand. Having 2k in the DRS would be 40%.

I then used it as an example if Town suddenly decided (not due to a Tier change) that they could get all fans into the DRS - it could be claimed (if it happened to come under scrutiny) that this was due to a higher amount of family bubbles to individuals ratio. But it was more used just to point out that Football Clubs/Owners are not immune to "bending rules" as far as they possibly can. I wasn't claiming that the example is what Town are doing at this moment in time  :)

I admire the amount of time and effort you have put into commenting on a large number of threads late on a Saturday night.

I observed that clubs will do things the right way and follow the rules/guidance. It follows on from this that I think (and posted) that the previous image 'lies'.  I have taken on board your suggestion that there could have been greater particularity on this point.

I am giving 'Professional Football' the benefit of the doubt on this.  I am sure many take a contrary view. I may well be wrong.

If you are a fan who has got a ticket and don’t use email in 2020 and will end up having the club send you a paper copy through the post - there is a good chance it will not get through the clogged up Royal Mail system (unless it’s sent Special Delivery) what with the time of year and what not.

Just an FYI.

Same, I just got a ticket emailed to me despite not being informed I was successful.

Looking at my seat number I'm C3 so I'm right at the edge in the DRS so I'm wondering if they've squeezed a few more in as I'd imagine they'd keep a few in reserve for players families etc.

Same area of DRS but about 15 rows down.

I'm assuming that the ticket can still be printed for scanning at the turnstile?

Will store it on the phone as well but looks a palaver to piss about with Google Pay as per the email instructions.

At the bottom of the email there’s a bit you can print that gives you a paper ticket

I have applied but have not received any email, so presume unsuccessful, has anyone received an email to say they are unsuccessful?  Or do you only get an email response if successful

I got one to say I was successful but only one of the 3 tickets promised (we have a family season ticket) has arrived
All sorted out now. With the minimum of fuss. Danny Lee is an absolute fucking star!

Just wondering as some mentioning a bit of a palaver with using Google Pay. Even printing of a ticket is a bit of a minor ballache...

With that in mind, why aren't they just using QR codes on the emailed ticket so you can have it scanned at the ground? It's hardly a new thing in regards to ticketing.

They are. There's a QR code on the PDF which can be opened on the phone.

Ok...which makes total sense and expected, so then why the need to print off?

I'm making exempt those few that don't have a portable device to display/present the QR. I'm aiming at those who will have a smartphone or similar and seem to be having trouble. QRs are a piece of piss even to a technophobe and as many will know, to read them only another camera on a phone is needed to collate (I'm talking at the merchant end which Town already have set up).

I sense there is the possibility that it's a case of Maxwell House - 'We don't like change do we Deidrie?!'  :soapy tit wank:

I don't think you do. I think you can just open the PDF on your phone and scan from there.

Yeah, I know how a QR works Paul and yes you can just open the PDF :D  What I mean is, why are some people feeling the need to print it off, when they don't need to (bar the very few exceptions) at all?

I'm wondering if they don't realise that essentially your phone becomes the digital "piece of paper" in this instance?!  :hmmm:

As Batch says. Print out as plan b in case the phone packs in.
Plus a tin can and some string so no missed calls.

Adding the ticket to Google Pay was easy in the end.
Just need the thermos and a blanket and will be good to go.

If you take a couple of tins of beans with you and a stove you can kill several birds with one stone.
Blanket will be a certainty. Beans will ensure that you (and others) are kept warm ;)

Well if you're taking a couple of tins of beans with you, you could throw those at the birds and then you wouldn't need a stone, Mr "No need for extra redundancy" :)

If I was lucky enough to get a ticket (and as a non season ticket holder in tier 3 area it's unlikely at best), I'd bring the thing in every available format and bring a ton of ID.  No room for error.  For those going, enjoy my friends.  I'm jealous, but in a good way.  :)

Do you think that the social media boo boys (Kovar, Grounds, Curran) are mentally prepared for Saturday and the roasting from their own fans?
Makes them play better doesnt it? that's why fans do it.

With so few fans hopefully there will be on booing, its certainly not what the players need, although with having to wear masks any booing will be muffled anyway, although that will be the same wiht cheering as well
