Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Saturday, October 20, 2012, 04:18:10
Reckon we can win this, just.

But Prutton & Clarke are bound to score just to fucking annoy us, the cunts.

so

3-2.
Collins & Bostock.

Home win. We'll banish the early weeks news to the history books with a resounding win. Maximum, stick for Prutton and Clarke within reason folks. Don't want to sink to the level of the Serbians now do we?

I will not stand for such sloppy work.  I think Suggs has let the glory of a League Two title go to his head.  I've said before, but he is simply too young to realise what is required to get out of this division.  I remember the last time, and discipline is paramount.

So Town to win 3-1...and put all your real MDT talk here in the proper MDT.

Post by: Honkytonk on Saturday, October 20, 2012, 08:47:36
Suggs, you have disappointed all of us.

It's going to be close. 2-1 Swindon, Ritchie and Benson, Prutton with the other , gets hit in the face by one of their crosses and it goes into the net but he has to be stretchered off with a broken nose.

And let's remember lads, you can't spell Scunthorpe without cunt. So, within reason, make sure you let Prutton and Clarke know that.

Boooooo Boooooo. Just getting warmed up. I hope Clarke and Prutton get plenty of light hearted abuse but please no booing of Kennedy.

As for the game, I just hope that if Plan A isn't working, we switch to Plan B earlier than we did last Saturday. Hopefully Macca and Flint at the back and Collins and Rooney up front.

On train to Abergavenny from Newport, then on my holiday weekend in Merthyr.

Predicting a 4-0 rout, Collins (hatrick) and Benson screamer. Fan to breach pitch to confront Clarke, major scrummage to ensue. 7,898, with 221 from Humberside. Dostoyevsky to pull a ewe in Brecon Beacons.

Not got the best view from the DRS of the red card but it did look like Clarke ran into Flint & fell over.
If so very clever from the cheating cunt.

Collins took his goal very well but we haven't looked like scoring apart from that.
That said, up to this point Scunny haven't looked like scoring either.

Prutton still a cunt.

It's funny how people see things differently.  Scunthorpe haven't offered a great deal and we were perfectly in control until Flint was sent off.

Ritchie, Ferry and Thompson all need to take some responsibility, it was like a parting of the ways until Flint put in a fairly innocuous challenge which Clarke made a complete meal of.

Unfortunately we've now got to hang on a bit in the second half.  McEveley is having a very poor game, which is a worry and Ritchie is again being marked out of the game.

Two points dropped today. Had we not played over an hour with 10 men, there's no doubt in my mind we'd have won that.   Even so, we had chances at the end that should have been put away.   We need to sort our home form out, 5 points out of 15 isn't really good enough.

Another dire ref, who set the standard early on by brandishing a yellow for a nothing tackle.

PDC not making comment until he's decided what to do one way or another?

As for the game, well Scunthorpe had 2 chances and scored one. Good cross, but I think Ferry fucked up by not shooting while we were attacking and lost the ball. They should have scored their other 1-on-1.

We looked OK given the 10 men situation. Final ball from Roberts and particularly McEverly was poor. Ritchie anonymous until the last 10 minutes. However Ritchie, Macca and Rooney all hold golden chances to win it for us.

Hey ho, feel a bit flat with the uncertainty to be honest.

Well that was crap.

Flint was stupid and probably deserved to go. I mentioned to the chap next to me that PDC should replace Flint just before he was sent off.

Jay Mac had a stinker

Collins and Roberts played well, but Roberts faded badly in the last 10 mins. Macca played well when he came on.

Rooney's miss was unforgivable.

PDC doesn't seem happy. Please stay Paolo!

Injuries are stacking up. I think we need to regroup and forget about promotion for the time being. Hopefully things will improve when Williams is fit again.

Oh, and Clarke is a c*nt.

Played some good football, should have won it even with 10.
Flint was foolish to get sent off for two stupid fouls.
The ref was bad, but was bad for both teams. More annoying was the constant rage around me at offside decisions that were actually correct - some people really don't understand the rules.
Another goal conceded from a cross... need to be better at that.
Paolo should have done an interview... he isn't helping with the feeling of unease around the place by acting like this.

Paolo needs to stop being a self centered prick and come out and clarify the situation.  All the refusing to give interviews just leads me to believe he is going to go in which case I would rather he did sooner rather than later.  In order to give the new man a chance to assess the squad before the transfer window opens.

So what did people make of Patey's radio interview.

Sounds like there is a bit of negotiating to be done at boardroom before we can progress back "on plan", and even then only if we find investors?

I say "sounds", just skim read the Adver's report. Hence why it would be good to get opinion from those who heard the whole thing.

edit: And as if by magic they are replaying it!

Mcevely was utter wank again today.

Rooney's missed two golden chances in the past two games to win it for us.

2 points out of the last 2 matches is frankly not good enough if we want to be pushing the top two. Regardless of our situation today, scunthorpe were there for the taking.

And I'm guessing PDC hasn't done a post-match interview because he's doing the evening entertainment at Butlins tonight, if his outfit was anything to go by

Scunthorpe were absolute shite and we weren't a great deal better. Jay had a shocker but Roberts and Ritchie were utter wank today. Rooney missed 2 sitters to go with the one last week. MOM for me was Colins who ran his nads off and kept the ball really well. Ferry as MOM was a joke - cost us the goal.

Title: Re: Swindon Town v Scunthorpe Official Match Day Thread
Post by: LucienSanchez on Saturday, October 20, 2012, 17:10:34
I wouldn't say that Ferry cost us the goal... poor defending from a basic cross did that, and Rooney's miss was far more costly. Agree with Collins as MoM, he's looking like a great signing - when Williams is back, we'll be dangerous up front.

Pretty poor around that game. I'm yet to see what the fuss is about Roberts. Miller was very negative with every first touch being towards our end with the inevitable side or back pass. Ritchie was much better with McCormack at right back but generally had quiet game. We spent most of the game hitting a pass and then watching it rather than moving to receive again. Mcleverly had a shocker. Did not get the ball in the box often enough. I was left bored and frustrated at this game. The sending off cost us and ruined the game. Also couldn't care less if pdc went.

Not a nice game to watch, very surreal atmosphere - well no atmosphere really!!  Very quiet all round.   Cannot understand our crowd clapping Flint as he trudged off, the tool really cost us two points today, we were in no trouble at all until we went down to 10 men.  Cannot argue with the thoughts of some other posters, a couple of players had stinkers today, we really do need a ball-winning midfielder who can pass on the floor.  There was no flair at all today, we did seem rather clueless at times, just humping the ball up to the lone striker.  Did come alive once Alan Mac went to right back, we saw a lot more of Ritchie then.  Hope Thompson's injury is not as serious as it looked, he would have been my mom today.

Thought when we scored first today we would go on and win. They played similar to Coventry with men who stayed out wide waiting for the diagonal ball which they used to stretch us, even more so when we were down to ten men. It looked like Paolo had a moan at Ferry for not getting a tackle in on Clarke just inside our half before he got as far as Flint, easy to say now but a yellow for Ferry near the half way line would of been a lot less damaging. Their number 22 ( goal scorer ? ) had a resonable game but overall they were very average. Some dumb shit sat a few rows behind me kept standing up in the 1st half slagging off our players for mistakes. He was surprisingly quiet after I wasn't the only one who told him to piss off home if he didn't have anything better to say.

Jesus fucking christ. Did I take a wrong turn at thisis. We drew at home today and had 10 men for about 60minutes today. Some people really need to get a grip of themselves.

Flinty doesn't make the best decisions every game but at least he's honest. Wants it all the time. When we were shit he was the centre back we'd been missing for 10 years. Paolo the same - we ALL loved him last year. Coats/smacking the dug out/passion/doing what he wants etc etc. Now all of a sudden he.'s this that and the other.

The reality we're a league one team in 6th place (if we finish here - one of best positions for years). Can we not just enjoy ourselves???!!!

Just got back.  Not much to add, I thought the match & the atmosphere were dreadful!

Jay was awful & Roberts seems to get in the right position & then go backwards? Frustrating as hell.  Not sure about Ferry giving the ball away for the goal, but he definitely gave it away for the sending off, wrong decision.

On a positive, I agree with the Collins comments & also thought Ward played well today.

Also forgot to say Prutton was attempting to control his own players, our players and especially the ref. argued every decision and had something to say about everything until he got booked which made him a lot less gobby. I actually didn't think today's ref was that bad, better than the last few we've had at home.

We played 60 minutes with 10 men and still got a point, unlucky not to get 3.

6th in the table.

This time last season we were 10th and in 09/10 we were 7th. Those seasons turned out alright didn't they.

Stop moaning.

I heard similar pre game. Apparantly he is due to have a further chat with patey tomorrow and if he doesn't get the answers he wants the end could be nigh. My source has been fairly reliable in the past but always a first time for it to go belly up.

I watched him closely during the match and for him not to give a pre or post match press conference reeks of a man on the brink.

IF he goes oh well, we've all seen it before and will many times more in the future. Remember a certain Mr Wise saying he wouldn't go a few years back? Im not comparing the 2 situations. Its been a tough week and a win would have made it a lot better.
Couldn't be there today and just seen the highlights on FL show, never a red, that pricks jumped into Flint

the big question is who would/can replace him? in the same way that JWray is a big act to follow so is PDC.

Hopefully its all speculation as he will stay and the club will continue on its current upward curve

We all hope he stays.  Paolo is special; and always will be, to us.

But if he moves on, so will we.  We will be a better club than the one that he found.

And as for not wanting to appoint a 'risky' manager again, we have history.  Paolo's appointment was in line with Macari's, Ardiles' and Hoddle's.  (Even McMahon's...whisper it quietly, but he did get us promoted.)  Swindon Town is known for giving a chance to young managers.  I am sure that this tradition will not end with PDC.

Tell you who I'd like

That fella who was manager at Rochdale and has taken over at Barnsley - cant think of his name though!

I'm afraid I am getting the feeling of an end to the PdC era - if 18 months counts as an era.

The biggest problem will be whether the club will just be looking for stabilising as a League 1 club in stead of kicking on as we are all expecting - bit deflating

Nothing I've heard suggests to me that the ambitions are to stabilise as a League 1 club.
More that there is not a rush to get promoted this year; even that if we did get promoted this season it might be too soon as we don't yet have the infrastructure in place to finance establishing ourselves in the championship.

My reading of the situation is that Black wants to make progress on the ground redevelopment and opening up sources of higher revenue ready for when we get to the championship so that we can sustain the costs that will be involved with being there.
I can't see that there is any reason why any of those at Board level or backing us with finances would be interested in having involvement with a run of the mill League 1 club.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, there isn't a lot of point in thinking in terms of Championship until, the infrastructure, is at least on the horizon if not in place.

With the appointment of Patey...it seems the owner has now realised this himself.  At the moment, we're in our rightful sort of place....namely top ten Div 3, who can give higher teams a game in the cup.  Keith Hill is the fella you're after.

That's all fair enough but I think most managers in this league would argue that we have a squad of players that not only could go into the Championship, but actually should get promoted. In terms of infrastructure, our ground is good enough and we have the most sympathetic Board in recent memory. We shouldn't really need to crank up either the expenditure or the revenue.

Personally, last season I felt that Paolo was the difference. At times we didn't necessarily have the best players but he got us through, with passion, tactical awareness and that unique ability to build momentum in and around the team.

The difference this year is that, on paper, it looks like we should be winning more games. Our players are of a higher standard and our squad is larger in terms of quality. Of course there is a rise in standard between the two divisions but, to me at least, we are underachieving. Last year, at times, it felt like we overachieved.

PDC is new to this and I think somewhere between the two campaigns he has lost his way. We lack consistency and he is becoming a parody of himself. These issues rose before the changes upstairs and he is in danger of hanging our lack of success on those facts, which would be wrong.

But we have the team (almost) to go for it now.

Who's to say in a couple of years the players we will have then (plus a different manager) will be up to the task.

Plus we can say bye-bye to those ambitious players we have at the moment.

But, at the end of the day, all I really want is to have a team to support - come what may

Exactly. Which is why we may be better off with a manager who looks at what we have instead of who we haven't.

I just hope that person is Paolo, with a slight change of mindset.
