Title: Simon Ferry
Post by: betty_swollox on Saturday, November 12, 2011, 21:14:35
Another great performance from the top boi.
He's definitely the fans favourite due to his performances, twitter humour, fashion style, down to earthness (thats a word) and of course his unique hair cut. Another great performance today made me think....
Why don't we have any decent songs for him? Probably has been discussed before but I can't be bothered to look through the site.
Any suggestions that can be started at Wimbledon? Only thing I can offer...
Simon Ferry you are the love of my life oh Simon Ferry I'd let you shag my with. Oh Simon Ferry I wish I had hair like you.

The only thing that would've made his performance better today would've been if he played dressed in his David Seaman outfit.

Superb today, topped off with a well deserved goal.

If a player actually gets his own thread on one of the opposition's forums then he must be doing something right. His hair cut is pretty cuntish though to be totally objective.

I think he deserved man of the match today, but my mate didn't. He raised a good point though. He said Ferry's pretty much always one of the top 3 or 4 players in a game, so whenever a sponsor isn't sure who's man of the match, they can't go far wrong by giving it to him anyway - if in doubt give it to Ferry.

By far the best player at the club.

Give the boi a contract extension asap.

We all know he is capable of playing top end L1 football - the fact that Wilson and Hart wouldnt play him last season is still well beyond belief.

He did look very composed on the ball in comparison to Risser. Not afraid to take a couple of touches when he had players surrounding him.

I agree with that. Sometimes he plods along through a game, never giving possession away but sometime not doing anything too spectacular. Kind of like Paul Scholes.
I actually think Kennedy was just as good as him today. Probably have to give it Ferry today though for two assists and a goal alone though.

Top Boi has certainly added something to his repertoire which is "lung busting runs into the oppoisition box" which he has never been capable of before. Definately benifitted from Paolo's fitness regime and superb yesterday.

Also plaudits should go to Mac & Flint who were also monumental. Finally I would also recognise Connell (who usually has the touch of a rapist) and De-Vita whose touch and link play were brilliant, especially in the 1st half. I thought that yesterday was Connells best game in a town shirt!

I'd still take an out of shape Ferry over Prutton and Douglas.

I'd say an in form and motivated Douglas is an asset to any team. Not sure which I'd take out of the two. Unfortunately we had an unmotivated and couldn't be arsed Douglas last season.

If we started a 100 uses for a Prutton thread we'd get stuck on post 1.
===

How close was Ferry to getting bombed out during pre-season, quite the turn around.

We all knew he had the talent from the Wembley year, but 3 managers looked like overlooking him. But he knuckled down and got fit and now he must be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

All hail the Ferry.

He still tackles like a girl sometimes though :)

I thought he was as good as gone. Fair play to him for knuckling down as you say and fair play to Di Canio for keeping an open mind and giving him a chance

I'd still take Ferry over Douglas every day of week. Whilst Douglas was far from crap in the year he won player of the year - he wasnt (mostly in hindsight, admittedly) even our best midfielder.

Perhaps - motivation and Prutton played a part but I dont think its co-incidence that Douglas was fucking shite without the Ferry.

I dont think Ferry was ever going to out the door in the summer, much much too talented for that. Di Canio would have done his homework and he would have know that Ferry was a talent.

No doubt if he hadnt of knuckled down then he'd have been out the door in the January but I dont think Di Canio would have been stupid enough to get rid of him without giving him a chance.

In his first season Douglas was exactly the kind of midfielder we hadn't had for years. He was bloody excellent and deserved player of the year. He was shit like a lot of others in his second season here but I don't think we should trivilalse his first year here. Yes Ferry played well but in no way, shape or form was he better than Douglas. It could well be that Ferry looked good because he had the wise head next to him.

I'm going to go with the option that they are both just very good players.Last year they were both shit. People are also underestimating in my opinion just how good and a big role Jonathan Smith has been in helping ferry refind his form.

Agreed on all counts, particularly J Smith - he's growing each game. He breaks up play well, his passing needs to get better but it isn't that bad, he's got a good shot on him, a good tackle and is decent in the air - and he's getting better.

This.

Not only was he our best midfielder he was arguably one of our better defenders, making last ditch tackles and blocks.
Ferry is a great player with the ball but needs to work on his play off it,that said he was quality yesterday as all of them were.
He and Caddis came with big reputations and judging on recent performances are both starting to live up to them.
I believe the bigger clubs will be sniffin around Caddis soon.

I disagree with that entirely. Ferry is, in my opinion the best player off the ball we have. If people watch him off the ball they'll notice that when Caddis overlaps, he'll often drop to right back. He does the same at left back and if his midfield partner has bombed on, he'll often sit deep. He's always done this, not so noticeably with Risser yesterday, but he's been doing it with Smith all season. He's also always finding space and making himself available for the ball. Something neither Dougie or Prutton did last season.

Whilst since getting regular games and even without Douglas - Ferry still looks utter class.

Yes and I don't see the point of arguing the toss as to why Ferry's form has picked up. Ferry has admitted he needed a boot up the arse, Di Canio said he got a boot up the arse and luckily he's proved the manager wrong and proved the fans' faith that there was a decent player in there.

I completely agree about Smith as well, he's been a very welcome addition to the team and deserves a starting place when fit.

Have to agree, the reason Ferry gets a lot of ball time is his ability to make himself available. Even from the highlights you can see he moves slightly away from play to be ready to accept a pass. He is a superb midfielder who is excellent on the counter attack and surprisingly fast.

BTW Risser was an embarrassment yesterday with his diving and feigning injuries, however Kennedy being 'knocked out' when the man got past him was a bit suspicious but maybe I'm doing him a dis-service.

A lot of people look towards the fact that Simon Ferry was here all last season and not used as a big reason we went down, playing that pikey cunt instead. What I find more bemusing and frustrating is that for a large part of the season we had Aden Flint not getting a look in and we played that useless bag of shite Andy Frampton.

I think it was a master stroke with hindsight.

Far better to let him keep his confidence and help take Alferton up, rather than get dragged down along with last years shit.

We saw him in a couple of games last season, and to be honest he struggled a bit.

This season he's fully league football fit, and we have reaped the rewards.

Ferry is the most composed central midfield player we've had since Migz. Technically excellent. His assist for Kerrouche's goal to make it 3-0 at Crawley was one of the best passes I've ever seen. Long may his form continue.

Ferry most definitely has a 'football brain'. He spots passes most players cant.

He was covering the ground very quickly yesterday. Especially for the 3rd and 4th goals at the end of the game. Says to me the lad is in prime condition.

Getting worried he might walk for free though.

A good midfielder will always make himself available for a pass....that dosn't make them special but a good midfielder,he has been outstanding recently but last season and for the first few matches this he was pants.....utter rubbish and lucky not to be on his way.
I still feel he could do more off the ball in a defensive way(like Douglas).....that said he offers miles more going forward.
By far away the best footballer at the club with his passing and runs forward.....but hasnt got the tackling abilities of say Smith.
Long may his revival continue because at the moment he has to be one of the first on the teamsheet.

Think that's why he has smith along side him to be honest.Douglas/Smith are better tacklers but Ferry is the better passer of the ball. Be very hard pushed to find a idfielder who is a great tackler and a great passer of the ball.

We did this little stupid thing the last 4 matches where we counted how many times Ferry gave the ball away.In the 4 home games up until Wimbledon on tuesday. He gave the ball away 3 times

Of all the players last season, who could be described as utter rubbish, I don't believe a man who barely played, and was almost completely overlooked, could be considered one of them. I also don't recall him looking utter rubbish at the start of this season, in fact quite the opposite (when he got his chance), but each to their own. :)

My point was merely in disagreement with you saying he could do more off the ball. Off the ball, in my opinion, is Ferry's game, it's what makes him brilliant.

Not our best player currentyl imo, but if he can play well consistantly he would be right up there.

Likewise. Though  looking back at league results only August was a terrible month. We've continually improved thereon in. The big squad we have should pay dividends when injury and suspensions come.  My main worry now is that we will be fending off bids for key players come January :)

My point was merely in disagreement with you saying he could do more off the ball. Off the ball, in my opinion, is Ferry's game, it's what makes him brilliant.

Regardless, we seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet at the moment. :D
When Ferry did play last season he was bollox but no more or less bollox than others. The difference being i suppose that Douglas and Prutton were not going to get any better but Ferry could. Ferry wasn't very good in the his first couple of games this season but he's looking the real deal now and long may it continue. We've now got the player we pit money down for.,
If I had to pick a POY so far I'd go for McCormack - a very steadying influence.

In your opinion, who's our best player at the moment then Arriba? Flint, Caddis, McCormack?

Richie is the most talented player i think. Hard to pick our best player and i don't think 1 in particular stands out alone.
Ferry, to be fair will be right up there if he continues his form.

I think Caddis has been our best player. It's a toss up for me with McCormack, simply because he's been a revelation at centre half and small enough to make Cannavaro look statuesque!

Happened right in front of me and it looked like he feigned it to me.

He may not have been out, but it was a nasty hit. I did have the benefit of several tv angles though

The picture of Ferry and Ritchie after the 4th goal on the official site is pure aceness. Thats what players should look like after their team mates score.

I think he'll just get better now he has his confidence back. He tore Huddersfield apart when they tired, he was full on sprinting until the whistle.

Maybe the OTT pre-season had something to do with it.

I was wondering the other day how many players, once the season ends, will think twice about getting too unfit in the close season, with an eye on a hellish pre-season and ensuring it's a bit easier by remaining super-fit.

I've noticed a bit of a pattern forming in our games and not sure of there is any link but it just seems to me that when they announce the attendance we suddenly pick up the pace and start passing the ball a lot quicker.

Not sure if its a game plan or whether its the opposition dropping off but its noticeable...

On Ferry's fitness, when he first arrived he was capable of running at full pace for the full 90 minutes and I remember an interview they had after one game where he had got the MOM and he said something like (in a broad scots accent) "I just run about a lot, the gaffer says all I do is run and pass, so run and pass is what I do, its good fun and l love running about all over the park and thats all I did today"

He's back to his best

Someone has asked Gary Rose on twitter if there's any truth in the rumour that Ferry had signed for the Slave Traders. Bit out of left field.
