Post by: leefer on Wednesday, August 3, 2011, 10:24:39
Hi.
Just wondering about a minor problem....i bid for the Di anio shirt on Ebay....and won it but have tried to contact the seller 4 times regarding payment pickup etc...i feel bad because it was for charity but she(Becky Middleton?)hasn't replied to any of my four messeges...she could be on her hols but why sell a shirt the week before :hmmm:
Anyway do i pay up and hope for the best or wait...been five days now and seems strange she hasn't contacted me,i even offered a little more or if dissapointed with the amount she could relist it....never easy is it! :D

Difficult because don't ebay have a "pay within x days" clause. I'd wait it out as long as I could and not pay - uless you 100% trust the seller (seems an odd item to "scam" with though).

Its probably holiday issue or some such genuine issue.

When did you win it?

Dont pay, check her previous out. Contact Ebay...if buyers / sellers get a 5 star report Ebay give poor references indeed. Shame....

As has been said do not pay any more, if you don't hear anything in the next day go through ebay as not many people want problems with ebay.

Don't give her the option of relisting to try and get more she sold the shirt so she has to accept the final bid

But whatever you do don't pay as you don't know if you have been scammed

I don't think sellers can leave negative feedback these days, just file non-payment reports.

This is correct.

I had a similar experience when I won some tickets to see Jedward a couple of years ago with a fairly low bid.  The seller was based in Swindon and I e-mailed and asked if I could collect the tickets and pay in cash rather than by paypal and the tickets be posted.

Never heard a thing back despite e-mailing several times.  I concluded that they probably didn't want to sell them for that price and got a better offer.  I was annoyed but at least didn't pay and lose any money.

It's totally unfair that only buyers can leave negative feedback. My wife sold a dress on eBay, the buyer paid promptly but after several days demanded a refund because she said the dress was dirty. As it was brand new we knew that was wrong and refused to refund. She went to the arbitration thing they offer and they simply said that the only way to solve it was for her to return the dress and for us to refund the money. They threatened to take money from us via paypal if we  refused. We later discovered that this woman had worn the dress, decided she wouldnt wear it again and so asked for the refund knowing that the arbitratration service takes this easy option. So, she had worn a brand new designer dress for the evening and only had to pay a couple of quid in postage for the privilege, whereas we now had a used dress worth a lot less money. How many times had she done this? As sellers can't leave negative feedback we were unable to warn people of her scam yet she had the nerve to write some negative feedback as a buyer! We stopped using e bay after that as they really couldn't give a shit and had no interest in investigating the facts.

It is and I think a number of sellers don't sell there now because of it.

I think that trumps DMR's Bink 182 love in.

I've had a soft spot for Jedward ever since they did Wise Men Say at Radio 1's Big Weekend (A considerable amount of people in the crowd shouted Sah-wind-don at the appropriate moment)

They are shite, but harmless shite.

E bay operates on a trust basis between sellers and buyers really. I've only been done once and that was with a fake item of clothing.
I've bought a whole range of other goods and have been really happy with the purchases. The vast majority of E bayers seem to be honest which is good.

I have heard of scams with games consoles where someone buys one, says it's broke and then returns a faulty one to the seller. Also saying items have not been recieved when they have is another common rip off.

Could you give me an example of harmful shite?

As it happens, yes I can:

If you are harmed, or driven to self-harm, by this video, then I apologise but it's adje's fault for asking.

Fair-but I get the same reaction to Jedward!

Bannings too good for them. To the tower and off with their heads.

Jedward?

Oh my days...

Not your cup of tea then Tans?  :D

As Nemo points out they're harmless and a really nice bunch of lads.  We bumped into them at One Big Weekend and had a good chat (so I got to see them at that free of charge anyway).

I expect most of you have sung along to one of their songs whilst driving along?

If I'm ever caught singing one of their songs I give the witness permission to kill me there and then.

Got to be very, very choosy what you do and don't buy from eBay. Far too hit and miss for my liking. I still snaffle the occasional bargain but like most things in life, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
