Pretty horrible seeing cars on the road trying but failing to escape the Tsunami.

The recent NZ earthquake was 6.3 on the Richter scale, making this one @8.9 400 times more powerful - assuming my maths are right (10^2.6).

This shizzle gives me the heeby jeebies.

One confirmed. There's three others that could be. How bad does a day get when the earthquake you started out with actually doesn't seem so bad next to the tsunami that hits you as a consequence and you then have to start worrying about your reactors going all Three Mile Island on you? The footage the BBC have been showing is horribly compelling.

Taking away the human and material costs, that whirlpool is amazing.

First quake got upgraded to a 9.0.

That's 6,000 times more powerful than the quake in NZ.

The reactor itself was shut down wasn't it? Not sure if that would lessen the explosion.

But the media is in a confused state, so I take what they say with a pinch of salt for a few hours. Fingers crossed.

The radiation could get blown right over to the West Coast of the Youess Offay.

Huge earthqaukes, war in the middle east, peak oil, and now nuclear meltdowns. The end of our way of life is coming. Time to stock up on food, water and shot gun ammo.

oh and I;'ve read loads of peak oil books, surival end of the world stuff and they all assume you have access to a gun (ie amercain) so I had to apply/buy a shot gun and I was surprised how easy it was.

They're still being hit by huge tsunami's as well.

Saw some of the aftermath 1km inland earlier. The amount of debris washed along what was (I think) a river was incredible. They also said one town of 17,000 had only accounted for 7000 of them.

The smell will start kicking up in the next day or two

Looks like another nuclear plant is in trouble as well now.

Seeing the before pictures show the real exent of the devastation.
