Time for the hols again - Hong Kong in early Jan.
I have been there on transit before and done the bog standard trips - anyone have any suggestions of fun things to do during our 10 day of oriental bliss   :)

Might want to google:

- The Peak, obviously, if you go before sunset you get to see HK at night too.
- Stanley Market (bus)
-Tai-O (to see how the don't haves live) & Big Buddah - both on Lantau Island.
-Temple of 10,000 buddahs
- Man Mo temple (HK)
- Star Ferry to Kowloon -
- Kowloon itself had good view over to HK at night.
- Temple Street night market (Kowloon)
- Tourist "junk" (boat) - was free if you took your passports along to tourist information to book
- Monkey mountain (Shatin, teheheh, crazy monkeys, we didn't get attacked http://www.myspace.com/misschan/blog/288650844)
- The Central-Mid-levels escalators - the worlds largest outdoor covered escalator
- Get some dodgy computer software from some shop in wanchai :) Seriously, they showed my a photo of some guy and told me to meet him by McDonalds in 30 minutes and tell him I was number 32. Still, worked out OK in the end!


I guess if you've done the bog standard stuff you'll have done most of that.

There is the Happy Valley race course (diidn't go) and I suppose Disney is open now (they were building it in 2003 when we went).

Personally i prefer HK Island to Kowloon.Batch has listed most of the things to do.
I think there's also a large SeaWorld.Also some good tailor shops.

First visit to HK we caught the hydrofoil to Macau for a day out and for another day out
we took the train up to Canton.In those days you needed a visa to visit Canton.

I haven't visited since the new airport was built and it used to be fun flying into the old airport
over the houses and checkerboard hill.Taking off over the sea towards HK Island was interesting!

I don't like flying but I have to admit I was a little disappointed Kai Tak was closed 5 years before I went.

Watch out for the janitor. He may appear mild-mannered but ....

Sadly The China Jump closed in 2000 - for those who don't know it was the bar where Gazza and co (in)famously got pissed in the Dentist's chair - I went there in 1999 and have to say it was the best drinking den ever. To get to it you went into a shopping mall lift and go up four or five levels... when the doors on the opposite side of the lift opened you were confronted by a wall of people squeezed into an unbelievable atmosphere... Immense... summed up best by the Multiple Screaming Orgasms. The bartender would mix your drink in his pants and the girl would lie on the bar hand cuffed to a tap. He would put the glass between her legs, jump up and pour the drink in the glass. The DJ would be playing Cream by Prince while all this was happening

Along with what has been mentioned already, Hong Kong Park (particularly the Aviary) if you seek a bit of peace and quiet from the throng, Stanley Street for bars, Light show every night of Hong Kong Island viewed from Kowloon side of harbour, Grand Hyatt champagne bar (expensive but an experience), fish market in Kowloon, tram rides on HK Island (get an Octopus Card for travel around the city, similar to Oyster card and can be used on most transport including Star Ferries and Trams...cheap!).

Don't go picking up any ladies of the night - they may be a lady boy
