I do watch it, I must admit...but it's mainly because the wife loves it and has a thing about 'Sir Sugar'.  But for the last few series, I've not been able to make my mind up whether the Apprentice still takes itself seriously.  Do the producers still think it's all about the crème de la crème fighting it out for a career-defining leap, or is it just panto-TV for the masses?  On last night's evidence, I'm thinking the latter.

What gets me is there does not appear to be anything remarkable about the contestants.  With few exceptions, none seem to stand out...so I'm actually wondering what the point of the programme is.  (Let's face it, if these people were exceptional, they would have already been earning their precious £100k salary of their own bat anyway.)

I've decided, infact, that the best thing about the Apprentice is it finishes at 10pm, at which point you can turn over to BBC4 (for this season/series, at least, before Sky nick it) to watch the excellent Mad Men - which, for me, is the best thing on TV.  Don't tell the wife, but I think I might be in love with Christina Hendricks.

I beleive that the last 2 candidates work for Sugar until the programme ends but a few weeks before the end of the programme is shown on TV Sugar says who has won and tells them (this decision is supposed to have nothing to do with them already working for him), I beleive the programme was recorded quite early this year and I think it is done over something like a 2 week period.

It is done earlier in the year but a bit longer than that period by 3 or 4 weeks I read somewhere.

I'm a College librarian and we discover people touching themselves up in the bookshelves now and again - although it tends to be more in the art collection than the business books! The most disgusting thing I've, er, come across though is picking up a book from the shelves to find that a used condom had been used as a bookmark. Ugh.
