Title: Parking Trouble! Post by: stfc11 on Friday, September 25, 2009, 13:18:32 I'm having a bit of a dispute with my neighbour over our car parking. We have been parking a car in a parking space at the end of our close because the lay-by we usually park in was full. Yesterday we had a note asking us not to park there! Yesterday the lay-by was full again when we got home so parked the car at the end of the close again. This morning there was another note saying it was residents only parking (no sign saying this) plus all the houses down there have their own drives. And that she had seen how many cars we had and would be contacting the Council?! We have 3 cars and 4 people living in our house. They have 2 cars and 2 people living in their house? This seems to me they have a car per person whereas we don't even have that! I just wanted to confirm that a sign had to be placed by the place we are parking if it was residents only and has anyone ever heard of this, you can only have a certain number of cars per house rule!
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Fred Elliot on Friday, September 25, 2009, 13:55:46 Stab her
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Arriba on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:00:42 knock on the door and discuss itwith them.ask for proof etc then go from there
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Sippo on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:01:28 Is it private land ie someone's drive?
If not then yes there will need to have a sign for residents parking. Your neighbour obviously doesn't recognise the car. Failing that Stab her. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: stfc11 on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:09:18 Nope it's not private land, basically there was a show home office thing down there so they had extra parking spaces put in the road bit rather than just a big flat bit of tarmac. And she parks there because it's nearer her house. I think i'll go speak to her later and ask if she's got proof of the space belonging to her etc failing that i'll stab her!
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Samdy Gray on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:13:58 It might not look like private land, but it could be. I have two spaces at my house, one directly in front of it but the other is across the way a bit. Legally I own the land, but I can't stop other people parking there (for legal reasons that I've momentarily forgotten). She could have a similar situation.
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Sippo on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:16:58 If it is your land (ie allocated parking space) no matter what distance from your house its your right to park there. Allocated spaces aren't always marked but are on the deeds of the property. I think it must be her land otherwise she wouldn't put a note on your car.
Where is it anyway? Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Dozno9 on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:27:17 Where is it anyway? We'll all go and park there. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: richt1976 on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:30:20 I had the same thing happen to me when I parked at my mum and dads earlier in the year. New people had moved in further down the street and starting putting notes on anyone who parked anywhere near their house.
The law states that if it is a public highway, with no parking restrictions on it, then you are free to park there. Simply because someone owns the property that you are parking in front of, it doesnt give them any further rights with regards to the space on the road. As others have said, unless its private property, which is highly unlikely if its just a cul-de-sac, or marked residents parking, then there is nothing they can do. As for my M&D's neighbours, I laughed in his face then proceeded to park there every day for 4 months!! He had to park on the pavement over the road and got several tickets for illegal parking!!! If only he'd been a bit more polite.... Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: tans on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:45:52 I park anywhere if i am able to with no parking restrictions.
At the end of the day i pay my road tax and will park wherever i can legally. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: stfc11 on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:51:53 She hasn't clearly stated in etheir of her notes that it's her space legally, just that we don't have the right to park there because we don't live down in the cul-de-sac (i'm on the corner of the god damn cul-de-sac!) there are no signs and no other residents have objected I have asked my neighbours who also park there sometimes and they have said they also believe it's a public highway and anyone can park there because there are no signs. She hasn't even had the balls to put a house number or name on the notes so we know who she is, we just have a good idea who it is.
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Ardiles on Friday, September 25, 2009, 14:59:56 Ask her politely for a face to face chat. She can then explain to you why she believes she has the right to ask you not to park there.
This sounds like a black & white issue; either you have the right to park there, or you don't. If she provides you with reasonable evidence that the space belongs to her, you need to stop parking there. If she does not, you carry on parking there and ask her, as nicely as possible, to mind her own business. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: stfc11 on Friday, September 25, 2009, 15:03:07 I don't mind not parking there if i'm not allowed, but it's the fact since we got the car in July we've parked in the lay-by all but twice and both times we haven't she's put a note on the windscreen, it's obvious we don't want to park there but in the situation we had to! Like you say Ardiles if I get proof i'll stop parking there, if I don't I will just say when we have to we will park there but she could use her drive, or use one of the other 3 spaces that never get used!
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Nemo on Friday, September 25, 2009, 15:05:33 Park it there deliberately with a note telling her where to stick it.
As long as you're definately right anywhere. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Anteater on Friday, September 25, 2009, 16:09:23 You could phone highways dept at the council. Ask if its a recognised highway, if it is and there are no parking restrictions you can park where you want ! Even if it is a private road it would have to be either owned or historically serve as original access specifically to her property to allow any restrictions. And of course if that is the case........stab her !
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! So how do you know its a she? I think that I would definitely stab her/him. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: stfc11 on Saturday, September 26, 2009, 12:40:06 I'm guessing by the handwritting, it's all girly, and according to the neighbours she's a right bitch. We've got a note ready to put on our own car windscreen for next time we have to park down there saying: 'this car is fully taxed with valid insurance parked on a public highway'. I expect we'll get another note telling us otherwise but if she knows where we live then she can come show us the proof we can't park there herself!
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: BANGKOK RED on Saturday, September 26, 2009, 13:56:24 Some people get possessive over the silliest of things, such as a piece of tarmac.
I once worked with a bloke who would go mental if anybody put something in his bin, he'd go ballistic much to the amusement of myself and others of course. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: blinkpip on Saturday, September 26, 2009, 17:29:21 On the story of car parking. Can you get clamped / fined for parking in these areas?

Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Power to people on Monday, September 28, 2009, 13:17:23 Having a simular problem, we have an 3 extra parking spaces at the end of the row of houses that belongs to the houses (stated on house deeds), one person has put a sign up stating allocated parking No 10 and clearly marked out a bay, we are getting some idiot who thinks as no body uses their 2nd space then he can park there (it usually get's used for visitors), I put a polite note on his windscreen the other week asking him to park elsewhere as it was allocated parking (assuming as he's renting then he wasn't aware) he then stuffed the note through someone else's letter box and is continuing to park there, even parking in the space that is clearly marked at the moment when he feels like it.
I have ordered 2 signs now to put up, 1 for my space 1 for the neighbours space, and aim to mark out the bays with paint, hopefully he will get the message and park elsewhere (he's got a garage that he don't use) Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Doore on Monday, September 28, 2009, 13:23:04 p2p, once stfc11 has finished all the stabbing, you could use his/her knife to slash this guys tyres. Just a thought, not encouraging vandalism.

I used to have an issue when I had allocated parking in a flat. One numpty used to park there all the time, until I parked behind him on a Sunday afternoon, then didnt move my car until I went footie training on the wednesday!! I think its fair to say after that he never did it again!!
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Barry Scott on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 11:48:24 There were some twats that live near me, that had some sort of parking dispute. Their issue was that they both wanted to park in pretty much exactly the same spot, but on opposing sides of the narrow road. This meant that whoever was home last, had to park either on the same side as the early bird, or the opposite side but further down.
It got to a stupid level at one point where they insisted on parking on opposing sides and being as close to each other as possible. It just became enraging, you almost couldn't squeeze your car in between the cars sometimes and had to come to a crawl. I think an ambulance driver gave the pathetic egos a piece of his mind and it doesn't happen anymore, thank fuck. Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Sippo on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 11:59:39 Parking infuriates me especially in North Swindon where I live. People seem to park anywhere they feel. On the pavements, roundabouts, bends, junctions...Grrrrr.
Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: Doore on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 12:04:15 Parking seriously seems to upset people more than any other issue in this country. Someone I know parked on an unmarked residential street (perfectly legally) and came back to find that someone had written Do Not Park Here Twat on his bonnet in paint. The street was pretty empty with ample space either side of him. People get crazy when it comes to their cars and a tiny bit of land.

Eaiser said than done, if I go behind him and block him in then it makes makes it awkward for the 2 garages that are in that area as well to get out. he needs to be parked in the corner space and then I'd like a really old car that is scrap to park there and leave it for a week (then move it undercover of darkness) The idiot is taking turns this week by the seems of it putting his car in all of the 3 spaces there day by day, he's clearly taking the piss, signs going up the weekend though and if he is parked there when we are doing the signs I will knock on the guys door and ask him to move his car as he's in private spaces, but from what I'm told (I've not seen him) he is a big built bloke so I'll make sure there is someone else about when I knock on the door. I would ask to see a copy, so that you can spead the word that it is hers. If she can't produce it then it would be fair to assume it's part of the public highway.
The council should know as well, assuiming that it is an adopted highway. On a different note the last tuesday match (S'hampton) I parked on Rose berry st, by the CG. Knowing it was reesidents porking zone I don't park their on Saturdays, & checked the sign on the way to the C G to ensure that I was outside the restricyion times. Seeing that the time on the sign said residents parking only til 6pm I thought I was safe. Upon returning I found I had a ticket. Duly took a photo of said sign & appealed, only to have the appeal turned down & a picture of another sign further down the road sent to me saying residents parking only til 10pm. I paid it cos I didn't want to have to risk paying double Talk about a bloody con. Same road, two diffent timings on the signs, which sign is relevant if you park between the two... I still don't know ! Title: Re: Parking Trouble! Post by: herthab on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, 14:01:19 Pour paint stripper on her car and smash the windscreen.
