Title: Manics new CD
Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, May 14, 2009, 18:06:14
What do you make of this? Overreaction in my opinion.

Is the album any good?

When when of your band members is so ashamed of your music that he goes through some vigorous self-harming before having the dignity to top himself, it's probably best to take it as a hint that it's time to call it a day, not trundle on through another decade and a bit of mediocre boringness.

They're no too bad. Haven't bothered with their last few efforts though.

Didn't one of their original members run off and has never been seen since?

He jumped off the severn bridge as rumour would have it. More than likely dead but they never found his body.

As for the band as we know it, i love some of their stuff. The older stuff mostly. Since the turn of the decade they haven't quite matched the same quality.

I've heard 3 or 4 songs off it which i liked a lot, it's getting great reviews everywhere. I know that doesn't always mean much but i'm getting it next week, and seeing them in London at the end of the month which should be good.

Bad day Ben...theres nothing wrong with abit of mediocre boringness, weve been saddled with it for about 10 seasons now,for what its worth the album is abit of a grower IMO.

They are the only band that can still write a decent protest song-I love 'em and am looking forward to seeing them this month at the Roundhouse.

Another great bit of art for their latest cover. Great live and to be admired for being one of the few around to truly write a meaningful protest song (quite right adje). Of course those whose politics oppose will disagree no doubt.Disappointed I'm missing them at the roundhouse (good venue by all accounts).

If being a band is about more than just the music you produce (and it can be) then Manic Street Preachers are unique in their ambition and should be treasured. Journal For Plague Lovers is a great record, and one no other band could have made. They also happen to be fronted by the greatest British rock guitarist of his generation, which can't be a bad thing.

As for the original topic, it's a complete overreaction and quite offensive that a painting of a girl with a birthmark is deemed "inappropriate". That said, there's no such thing as bad publicity and it's good that a band as long in the tooth as the Manics can still get under the skin of those too stupid to even try to understand.

Sorry for going on a bit there, but I do love them.

i don't understand how it looks like blood. the irony is that in 2004 they released lifeblood, the cover art of which depicted blood cascading down a naked silhouette.

Manics are superb live, saw them at Reading Festival last year. Met them in the signing tent too, James Dean Bradfield is awesome!

Worst band ever? Good one. You don't make and sell 9 albums if you haven't got something about you

They'd like that though. It was always about either loving or hating the Manics. Perhaps Caveman preferred The Levellers.

Yes but obviously he meant worst band ever in his opinion. It's not an objective title is it? A band can sell the most albums ever but someone can still call them worst band ever.

He might not even literally have meant worst band ever in his opinion. Its just an offhand way of saying he really thinks they're crap.

I think he meant that they are the worst band ever in his opinion. Below The Vengaboys, Westlife and 911!

Pedant alert! Those you have listed are not bands, but groups.

That's not going on a bit.  Surely that's just the start?

Could you bang on for another couple of hours about the Manics and save me the pleasure?

Ta much.

I went to a thing a few years back that was Teenage Fanclub, Super Furry Animals, The Flaming Lips and The Manics as headline act. What a fucking brilliant line up I thought to myself. I was especially delighted that The Manics were headlining as I think they're dog shit so I was able to leave early and avoid the rush.

Big manics fan myself.  Love the first three albums, especially The Holy Bible - a masterpiece.  Everything Must Go was a geat comeback.  This is my Truth... was a bit disappointing.  Know Your Enemy was poor, with a couple of crackers (Let Robeson Sing, Found That Soul), Lifeblood was dog poo, wrapped in more dog poo.  Was well impressed with Send Away The Tigers, their best album since The Holy Bible in my opinion.  I will be buying the new effort as soon as possible.

N.B - having read that back, I am aware that it is one the dullest posts ever.  I apologise, I'm sunday drinking to avoid inevitable monday morning.

Nice use of a lyric so old it almost certainly was written when the band was barely out of 6th form to illustrate your point.
