Zaynar and Orcacle Des Mottes, £15 double at Ascot.

Will probably just pick 4 or 5 higher league teams in the cup tomorrow and bang a tenner on that.

This thread has got me thinking... Jesus, Cheltenham's easy this year. You don't need Birdy, you just need half a brain.

Binocular won't get beat. Nor will Kasbah Bliss. Dunno where Henderson's sending Mad Max, I know it's not the Supreme Novices anymore but wherever he goes he'll be a great price and will hack up. Lump on Voy Pour Ustedes and Master Minded (who will both be stupidly short) because they just as well go round on their own they're so good.

Denman is absolutely flying (Harry F lives in Bradford on Avon and I play golf with him at the 'well) and you can get 8's for the GC. Get on e/way.

Cant lose this year unless you're a spacker.

I'm very skint and have just been going through Tuesdays games to see if I can win a bit of money.
I've picked out the following:

BAYERN v Sporting
Barnsley v BIRMINGHAM
READING v Charlton
LEEDS V Yeovil
BRENTFORD v Barnet
Altrincham v TORQUAY
Barrow v HISTON
Clyde v ST JOHNSTONE
BRECHIN V Stranraer
DUMBARTON V Elgin

Now, I obviously don't want to just put that on one accumilator, so with my only £5, help me win some money.

Avoid sides who are fighting for surival is a must at this time of the year.
Back sides who need the points for promotion/relegation against those who are safe for the season but cant progress up or down.

This is going to be a stupid question for most but where do you get the odds and pick accumalators on the betting websites?  Are there minimum/maximum amount of games you have to pick or do you just pick what you like and it generates a "hypothetical" win amount providing they come in? Obviousy Im assuming the more games you pick in an accumalator the higher the odds are but never done accumaltor online and seems like a decent chance of winning a few extra pounds (although I only bet VERY small amounts not very often :D)

Luci you can back one result, be it win, draw or correct score, who scores first etc etc, and all of these bets to many multiple combinations.
If you are betting small I would suggest you go to you local bookies and not set up an account on-line.

Title: Re: Weekend Bets

my advice is to bet what you can afford and not go for too many teams.it does me alright generally

Title: Re: Weekend Bets
Post by: Rustle on Monday, March 9, 2009, 01:24:21
Luci bookmakers do all sort's of coupons the main being a sections list where you have to pick a team to win/draw/lose out of each designated section, this usually pays out about 18/1 or higher, the catch is the last two sections are likely to be games that can go either way in terms of result like Man utd v Chelsea.

The wife has had a good few wins on the section's list,I myself stick to trebles but then i put more on than she does.

The odds are worked out by muliplying the odds of the first result by your stake, working out what's returned and then that is staked on the next result and so on and so forth. That's why all the results have to come in for an accumulator.

You can go as low as two results - this is called a double, a triple is 3 results in one bet and thereon they're called 4 fold, 5 fold etc.

In theory you can have as many results as you like but the bookies will probably limit you, or at least have a maximum payout.

Which ones?

I think

ARSENAL v stoke
sunderland v CHELSEA
MILLWALL v scunthorpe
CELTIC v hearts
dundee utd v RANGERS

looks reasonably solid?

£2 returns £23.42 (maybe should have stuck one or two quid more on this one)

Dont get greedy!!..a good punter never gets greedy..thats why i dont bet no more...good luck though i fancy scunthorpe to win today.

I actually lost £7.50 as I put another £2.50 on my second selection. Oh well. Fucking CEltic not being able to muster a win at their own ground on the last day of the season!!! >:(

A good win for you. I wouldn't have ever called all the below three.

Blackburn v West Brom - D
Wigan v Portsmouth - D
West Ham v Middlesbrough - D

I'm looking to bet with my heart and stick somewhere between £20 and £50 on the Lions to win the series against the Springboks 2-1 soon.

Every £5 you put on returns £110.

Looks like Bent and Kenwyne Jones will be good for them.

I think you need another couple of weeks to pick some real winners though!

Owen has always been crap with one on ones!

That was last season, if you carry on betting a £100 on players who only have five minutes of match time, well what can I say.

£6,300 I would be ashamed to mention such a small sum, any bet you want I will oblige.

One bet was £4,000 each way on Whitechapel, ridden by Walter Swinburn, first day of the Doncaster meeting, I took 14/1  (1/4 odds a place) in the morning and it returned at 7/1 and won by 6 lengths. Once on a roll I backed three winners with my next four bets. Those were the looney days when I had more money than sense.
I am and have been banned by the big four bookies for over 16 years.
These days I mainly bet on football on account - last year I made quite a substantial loss, and as yet this year have not had a decent bet, apart from a few at Cheltenham which also drew a blank.

Not trying to give it large, those are the facts.

I've won and lost thousands in the past, and definately lost more than I've won.  If I could have just limited myself to football I'd have been up, but I could never wait for the next set of football fixtures to come around.

Luckily I've never really believed in credit, so I didn't get myself into debt.  That said I'd quite happily have banged away most of a month's wages in a couple of hours at one point.  Haven't bet for about a year now, although I've got shit loads of shares which is gambling in a different way.

How much did you lose?

At times I lost more than I could possibly afford, but as a punter you remember those massive wins and you know you can do it, and you believe you will. I've seen so many punters in my time who place a bet believing they have lost before it even runs, 'the doom and gloom brigade', lose their money every day but come back the next day with another stash. They are the guys who go home with nothing because they do not know when to stop, you have to realise that sometimes it is just not going to be your day, never chase money especially on 'Virtual Racing' etc.

Over the last 15 years I have become more mature with my gambling and can go months without a bet. I do not follow tips about horses who are supposedly going to win or are trying, I leave those races well alone. I do follow information about horses that are not trying especially if they are fancied and then obviously bet against them, it certainly narrows down the field.

It was easy come easy go for me ... my father was a bookmaker all his life and at the age of 5, I could calculate bets and was already studying the form. I worked with my father on the course for many years and when he retired I took over his pitches and trading name. I soon found out it was easier to win taking the bets than trying to find a winner from ten or more runners.

Which is why bookies have three people taking bets and only one paying out.

If you are talking about on the course, then that is not correct - the headman takes the bets and lays the odds, the clerk records the bets and informs the layer how the book stands, the third member of the party is the odd-job who will pay out bets and go for this and that and of course the shared tic-tac who will work for six or so firms each meeting, unless it is a large festival when you use your own.

Only one in a team can make the book or it would be chaos.

You can only ever have one taking the bets

My picks for tonight...

HULL vs. southend
PORTSMOUTH vs. hereford
QPR vs. accrington stanley
nottingham forest vs. MIDDLESBROUGH
hartlepool vs. BURNLEY

£5 returns £51

ATLETCIO MADRID vs. panathinaikos
QPR vs. accrington stanley
gillingham vs. BLACKBURN
southampton vs. BIRMINGHAM
west ham vs. millwall

£1.50 returns £34

The first selection is supposed to be the safer one. I know it's a bit unlikely to hope for millwall be drawing after 90 mins at west ham but derbys can level the playing field a bit and really help the underdog.
