Watching the live unveiling of the new Doctor Who on a big screen in Swindon town centre.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/jan/02/doctor-who-bbc

Not really but the story is so odd that I had to mention it. I'm really going to see some friends before they have a baby and become so unutterably dull that I'd rather give myself a Listerine enema that see them again.

Working tomorrow morning.  (Year end...fellow accountants will understand.)

My wife and son are still away at the in laws for extended Christmas break, so I'm not happy about the rearrangement of the Millwall game.  I could have left work and been at the New Den in 45 mins probably.

So instead it will be back home when I'm finished in the office.  Farnborough FC are away tomorrow and Farnborough RFC don't have a game - so I think I'm going to try out a new running route along the Basingstoke canal from Frimley Green to Brookwood.

Gutted we're not playing as I have a very rare Saturday off... I might take in a game somewhere, here are some options....

Chester-Le-Street v Northallerton Town
Seaham Red Star v Newcastle Benfield
Ashington v Consett
Bedlington Terriers v Billingham Town
Bishop Auckland v Dunston Federation
Shildon v Morpeth Town
South Shields v Whitley Bay
Spennymoor Town v West Allotment Celtic
Sunderland Nissan v Penrith
Tow Law Town v West Auckland Town
Darlington v Bournemouth
Sunderland v Bolton
Hartlepool v Stoke

Working a short shift from 10-4, going home, then going back to Swindon for a meal at Cosmos. Would rather have stayed in and watched some footy to be honest, but I suppose I'll be making a profit!

Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, January 2, 2009, 18:23:20
I wouldn't bother with any of the last three.

Ashington v Consett would be my pick.

Peter Noble came from Consett...as a youth in the 60's I met him quite a few times, and couldn't understand a word he said.

Just make sure you don't come back any earlier than mid afternoon.  I drove home from Argyll on Monday - 450 mile drive that took 9½ hours.  Not a cloud in the sky (like today) and, being mid-winter, the sun was low in the south.  7+ hours of squinting in to the sun starts to get on your nerves after a while.

Title: Re: Non Football Saturday
Post by: janaage on Saturday, January 3, 2009, 12:08:55
I used to hate driving back down the A1(m) and M1 in the winter, barely being able to see the cars in front of you because of the low sun wasn't nice.  I share your pain Ossie.

I didn't go to scotland in the end. Would've gone Jedburgh way if we did. Instead we hit Hadrian's Wall. Brilliant, I love it.

Rich I'm well jealous i absolutely love that part of the country, to have that there, literally on your doorstep, is a blessing.

Jedburgh's nice too, my family come from a village just 10 mins up the road from there, Lilliesleaf.  Beautiful part of the British Isles.

Your day certainly trumps my day out in Leekes, Melksham.

It was great, cold but not as windy as it was last time we ventured to the Wall. We had not done that part before, walked about 3 or 4 miles before we realised that we should go back to the car.

Been to the abbey ruins in Jedburgh a couple of times - good stuff.

Oh and that part of Hadrian's Wall faced two hamlets both with great names - Once Brewed and the other? Yep, Twice Brewed!

I have a very critical eye when it comes to photos - something that comes from being an enthusiastic amateur shooter I guess - but those shots are really very good. Sky's blown out a bit on 2,3 and 4, but other than that, makes me want to visit. Better than watching footie eh........

I 've done a few bits of HW at both ends and in the middle...there is now an LDP which nominally does the whole thing...don't know too much about it though.

I'm more of a Wansdyke man myself....did a long Wansdyke walk a few years back about this time of year in some very windy sleety stuff, my mate seriously reckoned at the end of it he was suffering from hypothermia  :)

10-0? But the team they were playing (i forget who!) are meant to be rubbish.

I'm going next week, should be tasty - Aza is back with Isle of Wight, and after the meeting earlier in the season where he headbutted someone and received a bit of a ban, there could be fireworks.
