Title: Chippenham vs. Swindon / Germany vs. England Thread
Post by: Rich Pullen on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, 20:01:13
Chippenham Town: Chris Snoddy, Ross Adams, Kevin Halliday, Ashley Williams, Cortez Bell, Ian Harvey, Kye Holly, Joe White, David Pratt, Luke Gullick

Substitutes: Scott Lye, Jacob Gardner, James Martin, Sean Seavill, Luke Bryan

Swindon Town: Peter Brezovan, Kevin Amankwaah, Hasney Aljofree (Capt), Jerel Ifil, Callum Kennedy; Blair Sturrock, Jon-Paul McGovern, Chris Allen, Mark Marshall, Barry Corr, Ben Joyce

Substitutes: Callum Antell (GK), Sam Morris, Jake Hyde, Tom Evans, Yinka Casal

Very strong squad. Callum Kennedy has obviously leaped over one Yinka Casal in the minds of the current staff.

------------

Meanwhile, England vs. Germany - not much has happened yet!

Is Blair Sturrock playing right wing, well till Joyce went off and Morris came on?

Wonder if its to make up the numbers or whether Byrne rates him

While contemplating who to play up front on Saturday, Byrne mentioned at the Trust AGM that Blair is the only striker at the club who can run the channels effectively.

It did seem he won't be frozen out in the same way he was under Malpas. Doesn't mean he will be in the squad though.

Some of the goals conceded by Carson and Robinson, have been very similar to Smith and Brezovan...Capello must know that goalkeeper is a problem....think he needs to jump to Foster and Hart.

You can't pick Foster for England until he starts playing games though right? I suspect Hart would've played tonight had he been fit.

Really Reg?  I hadn't heard that.  I don't know why, but after all his faults I still think Gomes might turn out to be a decent keeper.  Not sure if it's the language he needs to sort out or what, but think despite all his errors he may turn out to be alright.

England game was magic IMO. We totally dominated the game and should have won it easily. Carson is incredibly shit and should never get anywhere near the England team again.

Glenn Johnson was awesome as was Wright -Phillips and Downing.

Thought Agbonlhaor looked OK as well.

Terry's goal was a cracker and made up for his and Caron's fuck up earlier.

Well at least we had depth. I love how Capello will still look pissed off and yell "push up" even on 92 minutes instead of sitting back like England teams of old have. Fantastic result IMO.

I am quietly optimistic with Super Fabio in charge. Let's not mention winning World Cups etc as we have to qualify but we have the makings of a very very good side.

That's the most upbeat review ever.

It was okay, we should have won and did... Terry was just as bad as Carson for their goal. Germany were shite (not the reason why we won but still, they were really shit)

When Germany decided to turn up we looked panicy which is no different.

A win is a win, barely any of those will feature in the next game - we move on.

Take that optimists!!!! :D

Friendly yes but well played Friendly. Goes to show we don't need Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard etc to do well. What it does show though is that we still have players who will bust a gut to wear the shirt. Although if we were playing say San Marino would the passion had still been there? Germany is a big match and Germany played pretty much a full strength team apart from Ballack. Was just good to see a bit of passion. Fabio isn't afraid to drop players, Owen and Beckham who under previous regimes were untouchable (apart from Becks and McTwat). It's refreshing to see players who will give there all for their country instead of taking their spot in the team forgranted.

Yes Fabio has made us very good.... we still need a good goalkeeper. James is getting on a bit though.

Pessimists!!! To be honest I am normally very pessimistic when it comes to England who lets be honest are incredibly over-rated by the media. But it was good to see a team without all the top players do well and beat a decent side. It shows we have depth and gives me a reason to think Fabio is doing a good job. Shame that as noted above a lot of those players wont see a senior international game again for a while barring injuries.

Yes but I was correcting Gazza who stated that only Ballack was missing (Fritz, Lahm, Jansen, Frings, Metzelder, Borowski, Schneider....)

It was decent and it was a win, but it I was majorly disappointed that the Germans didn't challenge our B team. It wasn't a fact of being too good for them either.

We'll always win games playing dull and I have no problems with that  8)

I'd say we were better for not being full strength.

Whilst im well aware it wasnt the most difficult game and Germany had players missing.

Did we really miss Walcott, Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, A.Cole, J.Cole & Ferdinand, did we heck.

Also, well good does Michael Carrick pass the ball? is there a better passer of the ball out there?

Carrick only passes sideways, so does Barry.

I'd admit that they can't play together, but Lamps and Gerrard have more ability in their left bollocks than MC and GB have combined.

Glad someone said it, because i don't understand this "Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard are shit" nonsense people have in their heads.

Lampard and Gerrard, are in stats alone, amongst the best midfielders in the world. Few midfielders score, as near as makes no difference, 20 goals a season for going on 4 seasons on the trot. And Rooney although a little bit poor until lately, still has so much more to give than just scoring goals. I could understand it based on England performances, but that's only judging them on a fraction of their games.

b) he's a scouser
c) he's ginger
d) he cost us Euro 2006 by jumping on Carvalho's manhood

Better passer than Carrick = Tom Huddlestone. He's just not as good as him in most other departments!

I was shocked that Downing played well. I also thought Bent made some good runs and looked dangerous, just didn't have the quality at the end of them.

Glen Johnson should have secured rightback for the next game at least.

Fuck knows what capello has done to our boys. I'm all for it though

He's even got the squad players (who've never played together as a unit by and large) looking like a good well organised side.

The biggest plus is our ball retention. It used to do my head in watching England as we tried to play premier league style football and give the ball back to good sides every 10 seconds. As a result our players would be fucked by the end of the game after 90 mins of ball chasing.

The players now look a lot calmer when in possesion despite Fabio threatening to do his nut if any of them gives the ball away needlessly or in a bad area.

Its not perfection and we're by no means condenders for the World cup (yet ;)) but it does go at least some way to showing that those that said our players were massively over rated where wrong.  We do have some good players (and some mediocre ones) and our squad is one of the top 10 in the world. We just needed a competant manager to get the correct level of performance out of them.

I don't believe he did, rather embarrassingly Maradona played the "who is Butcher?" card in a post match interview.  He said he shook the hand of the Scottish manager and that was it, as he didn't know who Butcher was.

The whole episode is childish to say the least.
