Title: Virgin Media advice Post by: Fred Elliot on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:16:05 My current phone/broadband package with BT is up for renewal, and whilst I have not had any problems with them I do feel the £69.50 I pay each month is fucking steep.
I can change to Virgin phone/broadband package with fibre optic transfers and free evening and weekend calls for £20 pm Has anyone had any experience with them with regards to quality of service and support etc ? Love Fred xx Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: STFC_Gazza on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:25:32 I have had loads of problems with Virgin Media when they were NTL. we paid bills and gave them proof they still cut us off etc. We cancelled an account in January and were billed until June despite giving the appropriate notice. They didnt keep notes and apparently if a call centre was say in Scotland they could not see the notes left by the call centre in India. Complete shambles. That said, Not sure what things Virgin have done with NTL. have they moved all the work to the UK? Improved customer services? Not sure. I know this doesn;'t relate to Virgin Media as such but does relate to the company they took over. This happened about 2 years ago things could have changed since then.
Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:29:38 If you have Sky, they do broadband and phone deals too.
Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Fred Elliot on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:32:33 If you have Sky, they do broadband and phone deals too. I dont and because my place is listed I am not allowed to have a dish Si Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:37:00 Not to worry. I couldn't remember. I had a look at the Virgin Media bundles the other day. They didn't really seem that much cheaper than what I was paying at the moment, plus I don't liek the idea of a 12/18 moths contract.
How on earth are you paying £70pm though? You must be ringing up those dodgy lines in the back of FHM! Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Fred Elliot on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:38:20 :-[
Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 10, 2008, 17:40:56 Bloody hell my spelling is awful today. I think I need to go back to bed.
Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Simon Pieman on Monday, November 10, 2008, 18:01:19 Anyway Fred, more usefully, you can get free evening and weekend calls with BT for something like £3 a month. If you tie yourself in for 12 months, they give it to you free.
BT broadband is rather expensive. There's loads of options out there which are fairly cheap in comparison, especially if you're not bothered by tv. If you're on O2 you can get broadband for £7.50 a month or free if you're on orange pay monthly. Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: yeo on Monday, November 10, 2008, 18:16:41 I have it,never had a problem so havent rung Customer Services.
Personally I think its pretty good. Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: donkey on Monday, November 10, 2008, 21:29:07 I have it and they had a problem sorting out our internet connection as they hadn't finished upgrading all the lines from Diamond Cable (the lot before NTL). The woman I spoke to was very helpful and took full personal responsibilty for sorting out the problem and did so in about an hour. Happy me. I told her boss she was really good.

Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: The Grim Reaper on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 08:07:33 I've had the £20 phone & broadband package for ages now. Never had a fault. Only phoned customer services once and spoke to a cool geordie dude who quickly sorted out my phone query. The call centre is in Newcastle, not India/Pakistan.

Also, I think the helpline is now charged at local rate.

Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: Barry Scott on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 15:57:49 Just posting because it's lightly related and i'm still annoyed. TalkTalk are cunts, no broadband for over a month, not one phone call returned and explained that if they send an engineer around, i might be charged something like £200 if they come around and find it's my fault. They are complete and utter cunts.
Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: magicroundabout on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 16:22:13 i think once my Sky contract of 12 months is up i may switch and get one of these chipped boxes.
I know you've got to update the firmware etc to keep the free channels but it'll soon save some dollars. Title: Re: Virgin Media advice Post by: otanswell on Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 23:52:48 i think once my Sky contract of 12 months is up i may switch and get one of these chipped boxes. I know you've got to update the firmware etc to keep the free channels but it'll soon save some dollars. if you go down the chipped box route, make sure the box you get is pace - it updates the firmware itself and none of this funcard business. my virgin card has been unlooped. also, make sure the box does not have talkback enabled that way the cable company cannot trace the box from the cab in street, however you will not be able to watch on demand tv. failing that, get a eurovox although they are expensive and you have to repogram the card every month...
