Come home Richie.

He did. They appear to have sacked him

Bet he’s chuffed to bits.

Gets a pay off and then free to go to Doncaster.

Would they want him?

They seem to be doing alright as they are and Wellens' record looks like that of a one-season wonder.

It may have been confirmed. Their website seems poorly, but there is a statement on there.

https://salfordcityfc.co.uk/club-statement-22032021/

Salford City Football Club has parted company with Richie Wellens by mutual consent.

We would like to thank Richie for his time and efforts at the Club and wish him well for the future.

An announcement about a new manager will be made in due course.

There will be no further comment.

The old mutual consent.....

This made me smile on Twitter....

Shocked and surprised that Salford have sacked Wellens.

Yes they’re 9th in the league and arguably should be in the top 6, but he’s just won them a trophy and has a history of promotion.

Won the Boycott Cup but that had been reached on the last blokes watch.

Hard for indulged Ex Premier players to comprehend that throwing money at a side doesnt give you success in the shitty, gritty world of L2.

I dont dislike them per say (Salford) but im happy enough he didnt succeed with them. Hopefully he moves on and gets success elsewhere, couldnt blame him for running to the hills from us.

Salford, the Watford of Divvy 2.

Hilarious, looks like last season everything fell into place for him perfectly and without that luck he's been completely found out.

Gone from high stock to a failure in less than a season, someone else will take a punt on him I'm sure but can see him fading away to a youth coach at Man United or something similar if he's not careful. Got completely lost in his own ego and believed his own hype!

It unfortunate that some fans are still a bit bitter towards Wellens. He gave us a great season, built a great team playing some lovely football. Yes mistakes were made this season, but in many respects his hands were tied by not being able to keep many of last seasons players on.

If we had some decent ownership, I'd have him back in a heartbeat.

I’d say yes.

Ex-player nostalgia + ‘yeah but look what he did at Swindon’ means I think certainly the fans would want him appointed.

Don't feel bitter towards Wellen for jumping ship from the sinking ship STFC, must have been clearer to him than the rest of us the state and direction of the club this year. soapy tit wank at him failing at Salford though.

Completely agree. Looking at the absolute shitshow this season has become, hard to blame him for jumping when given the chance. Although he has to take his share of the blame for poor recruitment over the summer, might not have been entirely his doing, but ultimately he was the manager. Still look back on his time here fondly though and have no doubt if he'd have stayed he'd have kept us up (which of course, Sheridan may yet still do). The bitterness and gloating by some has more than a hint of jilted ex-boyfriend about it
