True story here. We told one lad in our year - and he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box - that it was compulsory for anyone getting an A grade in GCSE RE to become a priest. He went for it completely. Started telling people how relieved he was that he was going to fail anyway.

no mcdonalds for you then Not permanently at least! haha Well done,
GCSE's are the only results day i've been genrally happy with.
A Levels is where it went downhill.
Oh and I got a D in RE gcse.
Cheers, similar to my brother... Aced his GCSE's and just fucked about and got shit grades at college. I may actually try at A-Level, been winging it for too long! Oh, What school did your son go to Arriba? Might know/know of him through playing football against him or whatever...

So an uproar has occurred because grade results have fallen especially in English. Apparently marking was a lot 'harsher' a d unexpected. This pisses me off. It's not the marking has changed, it's That kids are a lot thicker...

RE: Exam results
Does the Flynn effect count for exams? In intelligence tests the Flynn effect states that every decade average IQ test results go up 3 points.
This doesn't necessarily mean we are getting more intelligent, more that we are exposed to the type of questions the tests pose and hence perform better.
So if the same thing can be said of GCSE/A-Levels then surely they need to be 'normalised' or else the results are meaningless outside a a small window of comparison.

I'd suggest you concentrate on the English language before you go worrying about foreign ones...

No idea. My son was accepted at Reading Uni last week. He is going French, German and Business studies. He told me that he was warned the exams were being marked harder this year. He needed an A in French, B in Maths and a C in business studies. He got 3 B's and was just 4 points off an A in French which pissed him off.
