What are you lot talking about?

Looks like the bloke on the line that headed it on to the bar was behind the line, looks like he headed it forward which means he must have been or I don't see how the ball could have hit the bar at that angle and gone clear.

Indeed best achievement for another Swindon side since Swindon Victoria got to the final of the Amateur Cup in 21....losing 4-2 to Bishop Auckland at Ayresome Park....not so much a neutral ground, more of a home game for the norverners.

Someone like Leefer might want to do a bit of research on that game.....

The Vics, disappeared sometime in the early 70's...when I lived elsewhere, I believe they were franchised to Malmesbury.

An ancient mate, once told me their pitch disappeared under the M4....I always suspected he was talking bollox.

Very interesting................new about Swindon Victoria but didn't realise that they had reached that final.........will indeed be snouting about for that.

Played in front of 21,000.....The Swindon Vics were well beaten, even a full line up and match report.

Interesting.....although I suspect a certain norvern bias...might be one to look up on the Adver microfilm in the library....

I'd like to know where the Vics played though...

Bearing in mind Bishops Auckland were a top team they were not hammered.
The Vics actually beat Leytonstone at Reading 3-0 in the semi final.
In the 1930,s they lost 5-3 to Wiltshire County Mental Hospital in the Wiltshire cup!

Can find no trace of the ground though with Victoria being the name probably to do with the Victoria Hospital is my guess............i will find out Reg,its bugging me also.

Swindon Schoolboys sometimes have done well on the national scene....must do a bit on them one day..I've been to watch a few games as a glory hunter, just can't remember when.

Swindon Sunday league used to have some big games Reg might remember when i was young i can recall Deers leap v M&B at Penhill with 300-400 watching and a future Swindon goalie played ? i think M&B were originally the reserves of Deers Leap that could not get a game
As for Marine they started off as Penhill Youth FC then become Swindon Athletic before the Marine name

Cobblers won Div 3 in 62/63

I reckon that was a bit of 2nd string England side.  In 63...England won a Euro Youth tournament, defeating Spain 4-0 in the final  Pepe Reina's old man in goal.

England team...

Springett QPR
Wright    Villa
Noble      Man U
Kendall    Preston
Wright    Leeds
Hollins    Chelsea
Redknapp  West Ham
Knowles    Wolves
Sadler     Man U
Sissons    West Ham
Rogers     Swindon

Most of those had a career, don't remember the 2 Wrights though
