Looking unlikley, been raining all morning in London.

But if it does go ahead, then that will probably mean we will have a dodgey pitch , 2-1 Orient.

Problem is that I'l be on the train at the time of the pitch inspection!

Looking at Millwall - Pool rather than Brentford. Watford will be a sell out won't it?

Same here. Only as far as Swindon though so if its off I can just turn around and come back. Fancy a draw today if it does go ahead.

who plays right back?!

Would rather him there than lose Douglas' influence from midfield though I think.

who plays right back?!

Guessing it must be Cuthbert, which would raise the question of why the fuck he couldn't do it the other night.

Unless its a 3 or 5 man defence, which is unlikely.

Post by: DiV on Saturday, February 27, 2010, 14:41:33
Why is it obvious Cuthbert will play right back?

Personally, i'd rather Morrison was out there, ok he isnt quick but moving Cuthbert out of central defence....

Although we could go 3 at the back Cuthbert, Morrison, Greer. Sheehan and JPM as wing backs. Duggie, Ferry and Ward as a middle 3.

Well Morrison isn't a RB is he? Cuthbert has played there before. Just makes sense. Of course we could go with 3-5-2 as you say but can't see it myself.

I'd take a point, we are due a bad run of form and I'd rather it came sooner rather than later, then we can get some decent points on board in April for the final run in.

Some very tough away games coming up, be able to tell then if we are more or less certain for the play offs.

Wardy and JPM will have their wingers going the other way, while Austin and Paynter are tearing them a new one. I'm not bothered about Cuthbert at full back.

It's being realistic mate. Every side goes through a bad run, and we have some tough games coming up.

I'm delighted with the way things are going, not negative what so ever, loving it at the minute and have total faith in this side. I reckon it's easily as good as 03/04.

I work with a Wendies fan who said when they went up from League One he practically dragged them up during the second half of the season...  He was amazed to hear he'd started off badly at Town.  Think we had a quality player on our hands, just took him time to adjust.  He's a bit like Grant Smith in that respect, although to be fair he had more of an opportunity than Smith.  Couldn't believe the difference in McGovern when I've seen him this season - last time I'd seen him before was Cheltnumb away!

I would say the top 2 is beyond us,we really need to win this to keep daylight between us and some of the others.

Win today, and we're only 5 points behind Leeds with a game in hand.

It's all to play for...

How can it be out of reach when we have both Norwich and Leeds still to play?  Admittedly it's a long shot, but this Town team is still surprising me...

I dont think leeds will fuck it up and it's all to tight up there,we lose players like douglas through injury we're fucked, also our habbit of late goals is not inspiring.

Yeah but it gripes me to pay for something that I could listen to for free if I lived nearer Swindon!  Plus when I subscribed they were continually having problems so you could never listen til about 20 minutes in.  I then got charged twice, so I told them where to go.  Jeff Stelling is great this season - he loves us!

Sub standard performance on a poor surface. Really missed manks as cuthbert and morrison didn't look comfortable. Orient the more threatening and lucas and morrison goal line clearance kept us in it. Point won rather than points lost

What a dull game. Nothing happened for most of it, although it livened up towards the end. The flare was very random but got the crowd going and the atmosphere was suddenly a lot better. Also, I still haven't worked out how the ref managed to avoid giving a penalty. Blatant would be an understatement.

Morrison and Greer were ok at the back together defensively, although I'd much rather seen Manky back in ASAP. We just didn't seem quite as solid, and Morrison did give the ball away far too often. A bit Ifil-esque really. Our main problem today however was that we weren't creative enough. We didn't put a single good ball into the box until the last 5 minutes, and then all of a sudden both teams seemed to be going all out for the win. Shame the ref denied us the chance from the spot, although it would have been harsh on Orient as a draw was probably a fair result.

Just got back, we were lucky to get away with a point today, so it was a good result.

First half we failed to create anything apart from a half chance from a Paynter header, and Orient really should of been in the lead at the break, with Lucas making some good saves.

Cuthbert was adequate cover at RB but we really missed Manky today.

Second Half was a little better, we created a bit more but our final product was still poor, Paynter had a long range effort well saved by their keeper. Morrison cleared what looked like a goal bound effort from under his own crossbar. We had a stonewall penalty turned down in the last min, what the ref saw i dont know, but a draw was a decent result for us in the end.

The pitch was absolutley rubbish, sand in a few places and most of it bobbly. I'm fairly sure we sold out our away end today, it looked full. The atmosphere was brilliant and it was a pleasant surprise for us to be creating so much noise.

With flare incindent, the twat lit it and then threw it towards the front of the stand by the exit, it then started burning and the game stopped for a minute while stewards and the fire staff put it out. The twat was then ejected rightfully and hopefully shot. It is utter lunacy to throw a lighted flare in a wooden stand! What was he thinking!

Overall, it was a good point and the unbeaten run continues!

Not really, he made one simple diving save, and closed the angle down well for another. He did a good job on those two but they didn't threaten us much in the first half, despite us bing a bit lost at sea.

I thought we really struggled to create chances today, which could partly be down to the dodgey pitch but also i think it shows that manky is a big influence for us going forward.

It raises a question about quantification of support. Do people have a fixed amount of football team support they can give, does that mean that if you support two teams then your support is split, and you can't support either as much as if you only supported one.

How about we swap football teams for children. If you've got more than one child, is it possible to love them each as much as if you only had one. Most parents would claim it is. But is that really true or just an idea that has become an ingrained social construct.

The idea of child worship is a fairly modern one. If you went back in time a couple of hundred years and asked Lord Bobblesworth of Bobbington, he'd have no problem with rating his children in order of preference. Biologically, Lord Bobblesworth isn't any different from you or me, so that idea of equal love for children obviously isn't built in, but does that make it any less important?...

Oh Ben, I think I love you a little bit.

What a lacklustre performance today.Right from the kick off we failed to impose ourselves in
a game that was there for the taking. It was almost as if we were happy to settle for 1 pt,
rather than taking the initiative and trying to get all  three. We were stuck in 2nd gear for
most of the time and nobody was prepared to bust a gut,to get us that important win today.

There was no pattern to our play and apart from a Paynter 25 yarder we could hardly muster
a shot on target in the 2nd half.

Cuthbert is a very fine centre half, but today showed just how much we need Amankwaah or
quality cover at right back.Demetriou was their most dangerous player and he was given far
too much room on several occasions.Orient had two very good chances on the break in the
2nd half and it took two great clearances to stop them from scoring.

Lucas's handling was good and kept his concentration well.Greer put in a lot of effort, but our
full backs offered very little going forward.Wardy very quiet.

Great support,we can and will need to play much better than today during a testing march.

Morrison mom for me looked very solid and composed. 5/10 for the game, 1/10 for their grond and facilities, absolutely shocking for a league one side. 1 toliet, right by the only snack bar, brilliant. And they ran out of everything! Thought their support was poor, but that may have been because ours was really loud, only heard the 2 or 3 times.

THREE Swindon Town supporters were arrested after a flare was lit and thrown towards the pitch during the second half of Saturday's match.

The Swindon supporters were housed in the East Stand, which has a wooden floor next to where the flare, which was the size of a marker pen, landed inside the old Director's Box. It briefly set fire to the segregation netting before Fire Stewards put the flames out preventing further damage being caused.

Orient stewards identified and ejected the alleged offenders and they were arrested by waiting Police officers in Brisbane Road.

A large number of Swindon Town supporters approached club staff after the game and offered to identify the perpetrators whilst the Robins directors present have asked for their details to be passed to them.

"This was the most stupid single act I have seen inside Brisbane Road, said Orient Chief Executive Matt Porter.

"These individuals endangered the lives of the 1580 supporters from both teams inside the stand with their idiotic actions and it could have ended up much, much worse.

"The Club will fully assist in the Metropolitan Police's investigation in to the incident and will be pressing for the strongest possible punishments for the offenders.

"Thanks to the Swindon supporters who offered to assist us in identifying them - they were outraged that their lives had been put in danger and want these people held to account for their actions."

He wasn't too bad defensively - Orient didn't actually threaten our goal too much except towards the end. His distribution was the big let down for me. As I said, it was like having Ifil back in the side. I'd forgotten how privileged we were to have a back 4 who play it out of danger so well.

The lad who chucked the flare was a five people along from me in the same row, he chucked it and it landed about a couple of feet from my parents who were sat at the front, the old man was fuming with the stewards who took an age to try and put it out and not a fire extinguisher in site in a wooden stand.

Well Cuthbert should never play right back again-shocking .If their no11 could finish he would have had a hattrick.Morrison looked a bit shaky to me,though won a fair bit in the air(most headers poorly diirected though)Greer mom for me.Wardy was out of sorts as was JPM,neither able to deliver any decent balls today.Brilliant effort by Paynter and a cast iron penalty.Cant understand why Paynter didn't get booked if the ref thought it was a dive.Austin looked tired today and Ferry also.Sheehan not bad apart from a few "Ifil" slices into the stand.Douglas the pick of our midfield.Starting to worry bout Pericard, did very little again and Im wondering if his heart is in it,not starting, prepared to give him a chance tho'.All in all cant complain after the ace football we've been playing lately-an under-par performance but a decent point.Tubes were a nightmare by the way!

Solid enough performance today. The wide lads struggled with their delivery, possibly because of the pitch and we didn't really create but still a good point. We missed Kev massively mind, on two fronts, not only as a right back but also forcing SC to play RB. Morrison for me was not good enough. Mcgliesh dominated him aerially and his distribution was woeful. He is no more than an average L1 CB.

Sheehan was poor first half but was superb second half, whilst Dougie and Paynts were also tireless.

Watching the Carlisle game and then today, I think Austin needs a rest and Vince should come in for Rovers. Since the step up Austin has played a lot games, and looked shattered today.

Decent support numbers wise but atmosphere wasnt great, and I hate being forced to sit down when the seats and general facilities are so so bad.

Had a feeling the surface would impinge our game today, and it did. Ward was very quiet, the final ball all round was poor and a draw was a fair result in my opinion. Thought Morrison did ok, his distribution was hit and miss though. Cuthbert was adequate at full back but as others have said, Amankwah was missed.

Stone wall penalty for the foul on Paynter. Only thing I can think of, is the ref must've thought Paynter handled the ball in the build up. Wasn't offside, can't have been given for diving.

He wasn't even in our top 2 defenders(Greer and Sheehan had better games). His distribution was very poor and he hot done by his man a couple of times. If you take away the distribution factor he had an average game. But ball retention is a big part of it.

I'm happy with a point, because or performance as a team barely deserved one.

how i'm seen as grumpy and negative is as much as a joke as is the stick for morrison.

Well equally I'm flabbergasted anyone thought he played that well. So we'll leave it there.

Interesting that there's a big disagreement on Morrison, noticed that on the first wave of discussion too.

Can't really comment from the radio commentary. Thankfully they realised it was a dull game and Vic Morgan did a great job of amusing us with anything else, including film reviews.

Can't comment on the game as I didn't go, but as a lot of folk predicted a defeat and most of the top sides drew it's got to be all positive. Right?

@leefer  Laverstock & Ford    P - P         Brockenhurst

No need to sit down this week

So anyway back to the match. Has anyone worked out why Paynter didn't get a penalty. I think as said by someone else it must have been a free kick for an infringement before the foul. Diving would mean a booking, plus he didn't dive!

And did I imagine it, or did one of our players get given offside from a Leyton Orient players header?

i'm embarrased for you.our 2 best players today imo.lucas not far behind.

the game itself.draw fair result.thier  11 should have scored 2 and is a decent player(luckily shite infornt of goal)how many times was he left all alone?

Those two statements contradict each other really-the reason their 11 was unmarked 3 times is 'cause Cuthbert was uncomfortable at RB.Just my opinion

yes and no.Wilson said afterwards that the ref gave a free kick against Billy for"a nudge"-and no,you didnt imagine it,that was truly baffling

because he came from their left it's easy to say it was down to cuthbert as he was right back.wasn't that simple though.

Thanks.
As for Morrison it seems a trait with Town fans to knock youngsters or players that come through the ranks.
Thaught he was quality v Stockport especially first half...yes his distribution lets him down at times but hes there to defend and he does that really well.
He has a great temperament for a teenager.....remember thats what he is and for me last season behind Coxy was our best player when he played.

There is no way anyone other than Paynter was our second best player last season.

First poor Swindon game for a while, but I do think this was mainly down to the state of their pitch. Their defence was rock solid, by far the best part of their team. The only other thing Ive got to say about the game is I felt sorry for Scott Cuthbert. He only gets asked to play right back because hes faster than Morrison or Greer. He really is trying to help the team out by playing out of position, and obviously he wasnt his usual flawless self.

Decent support from Swindon, which suprised me because I didnt know many people who were going. Would have been totally mad to have got a winner. Bring on Rovers!

We really missed the attacking outlet that Amwankah provides down the right and his link up play with JP. I don't think Cuthbert did too badly, but seemed to get sucked into the middle too much which is hardly surprising. The pitch didn't help at all either. I'm happy to have come away with a point and the unbeaten run intact.

Strange when you think back, Cox, Greer and Paynter last season good, most of the rest a pile of shite, we've come a long way this season when the worst that happens is LJF switches off now and again! Or Greer gives away the odd silly foul!

Don't need to see it. Danny has told me it was stonewall. That's good enough for me [sends death threat to ref in the post]

:)

Thought Greer was mom, Morrison did OK and certainly doesn't deserve to be slagged off.

Nice reception for Easton when he came on from both sets of fans.

Defo penalty no question. Ref was very poor for both sides and although we had plenty of possesion we never really got on top (bit like at Fulham).

Draw was a flare result !

Also enjoyed the Birkbeck Tavern, pint of Rita...nice !

I thought it was a pen but i thought the ref gave an offside!!

Would of been harsh on Orient.

We didn't deserve it but is still a pretty simple decsion.

I thought Morrison had a solid game, although his distribution could have been better.

Neither side really did enough to win.Orient probably had the better clear cut chances.

It certainly was a stonewall pen,ref bottled a big and very late decision.
