Great read - I would say the only thing wrong in there is about McCormack - he's one of our centre backs now! So you'll more likely see him along side Flinty rather than Ferry.

Thanks for the nice feedback guys, nice to converse with some decent folk.

My old English teacher at school was a Swindon fan and about 10 or so years ago now you guys were the one team that would always beat or draw against us at LR. Sam Parkin seemed to score without fail against us and we'd always get stick off our teacher. He'd wear his tie, write the score on the board and put a picture or two up. Proper good bloke and decent banter, he'd always give us a special wave from terrace 1 at the Layer Rd end.

Shame they don't build grounds like that now. It might have been old and decrepid, stinking of piss but it was bursting to the seams in character. I loved the closeness to the pitch, players could hear you and there were some players who got really effected and had stinking games. I never forget Ben Chorley getting red carded for flicking a V at someone, Darren Huckerby and Chris Armstrong getting dogs abuse and getting hauled off. One of my favourite moments was with Armstrong when he got subbed off singing "Lets all wave at Armstrong" with a few hundred fellas giving him a special wave and he disappeared down the tunnel shortly afterwards. You get banning orders for such behaviour these days.

The fans being able to mingle with each other in the Clock End seating would not be allowed these days, but that to me is what football is about. Being able to have a laugh and banter with each other, I am only 25 but miss those days terribly. When I first started going you could even change ends as well which is madness when you think about it.

My greatest memories of that ground has to be when Forest and Sunderland came down. There was probably more of them in the ground that Colchester fans, yet they were humilatingly beaten by shitty Colchester.

Club have gone backwards since in the generic commercialised sponsor stadium. There really is nothing to like about most modern stadia. As I put before, Chesterfield should be a model for any team building a new stadium. Atmospheric and decent price structure - good stewarding too!

Never thought I'd see that. Used to hate seeing him play against us. Thought he was a really decent midfield player. Should be interesting to see how both Flint and he cope with big Odejayi. He was pony at the County Ground last year.

I don't think Rose will play either, well hope and pray he doesn't!

I actually can't fault Macca at CB at all. Paolo likes him there because he wants us to play out from the back and having someone like Al there provides the ability to do so - because no matter how towering Flint is he can't pass for shit!

Despite his height he's pretty immense in the air and times his tackles to perfection, they're forming a fantastic partnership.

I would so love to be going tomorrow - purely in the hope that, that bald cunt plays.

I can see why he'd be decent at the back. He was always a tenancious terrier type and seemed to have decent vision too. Got a feeling Flint is gonna come back to haunt us. Rough diamond but young enough to cut the crappy errors out. Can see him having a decent career. We had that Elokobi chap that is at Wolves now, absolute machine of a bloke. Manager never knew what to do with him as he was so unpredicable. We all laughed when he moved because we thought him against the wingers of the Prem would be hilarious. Coped pretty well though, think Flint could do better though.

I can't see Rose staying here much long either personally. He has looked such a liability. We usually get fans of other teams come on to our board and slate players we just signed, usually turns out to be sour grapes, but the opinion of Rose has been pretty much spot on!

Do I remember Colchester signing Tony Thorpe, who couldn't score for shit only for him to score vs us at the first time of asking?

We did sign him yes, but he never scored at all. He seriously could not hit a cows arse with a banjo. I don't think he ever scored again after leaving us. He was the Curo replacement after he returned to you guys.

One game that sticks in my mind was Brentford at home where we drew 1-1 and had at least 20 attempts on goal. We absolutely run riot but most of the chances fell to Thorpe. However hard he tried each attempt seem to hit the post or the bar. Sunderland's Michael Turner has made a career out of that one game I swear. He must have cleared the ball off the line at least 5 times in the game. Was a brilliantly frustrating but entertaining game of football.

You'll be glad to know that we have near enough eliminated hoofball from the side after that idiot Hoofroyd disappeared to Cov.

We already have Anthony Wordsworth who is a real dead eye from set pieces too. Scored a stunner at Brentford this season to steal a point. Rose did score a couple in pre season from set pieces though.

Sort of an American Football moment where you wish you could bring him on for free kicks and then take him off again.

I remember going to Layer road on a cold tuesday night.  Shit game that we won 1-0 with a Michael Reddy goal, but even though LR was run down, i quite enjoyed it, proper old school.

Haven't been to the new one, driven past it but that is about it.

Nice write up ColUDave.

I only went to Layer road once, in the Championship winning season of 85-86, there was a crowd of 2,997 and well over 1/3 of those were Swindon fans, Bamber scored in a 1-1 draw.

Horrible place for away teams to play so compact and cramped (especially in a very crowded away end with about 1,100 fans in a space made for about 800!)

I hated it there, not been to the new ground as yet though.

Little bit more on Cunty Rose

I was there, nothing alleged about it, he did stamp on the bloke!
Thus causing us to lose iirc?

Who's going tomorrow?

Hopefully about 500 of us! I'm in a car with 3 others... Shame we've got Southend and Rovers away in the same week otherwise it might be a bigger turnout!

That would exceed my expectation of around 300 of us!...Agree with your comments about Gas and Soufend though, oh well those that go I'm sure will make plenty of noise!  Beers

Nothing against Col U at all. Anthony Wordsworth is a bit of twat though, for some reason decided to celebrate both of his goals in front of us giving it the large one when you beat us 3-0.
