In my mind Bournemouth sit alongside teams like Crewe, Hartlepool, Walsall in being totally inoffensive clubs who we happen to spend a long time in the same division as but who I am otherwise absolutely indifferent to. But the way they're talking it sounds like I should be bringing riot gear.

It kicked off a few years back (mid 2000's?), our "boys" went on a rampage and trashed a few shops near the ground if I remember correctly

Not sure about Powder Keg but wouldn't be suprised if there is trouble especially as there are plenty of Town fans going in the home sections. There is history, think its been mentioned in this thread but hopefully it will be the game we are talking about as one things certain it has the makings of a great battle on the pitch.

Was talking to a few lads/Swindon supporters tonight who live in Wiltshire who ordered tickets for the home end next to the Town supporters, I asked if they had to give  a post code but as they are picking their tickets up on Saturday they didn't. The person on the phone just asked if they were Bournemouth supporters and were happy just to take their word for it. Perhaps they will be asked more when they collect them?

I was one of those 17 arrests :-[ No trouble involved just the little matter of smuggling alcohol into the ground. The cops had the decency to wait until half time. The pubs in the town are utter garbage, think chain bars with no redeeming character traits. One place that you will be utterly hard pressed to locate a pub in the true meaning of the word. Very dissapointing drinking holes.

As far as I am concerned, boscome is the place where I have heard most town fans are going to drink...get the train to pokestone  (closer train station to the ground than bournemouth central) and then just a little walk to boscome...beach front, weatherspoons and other bars. what more do u wnat.

Sounds fair enough then from their point of view, particularly if anyone was caught up in it. We do get some real knuckleheads 'supporting' us away from home. If you look across our away fans you can generally find about 10 or 15 people doing this  :smugfu: at the opposition fans instead of watching the game. I remember a transit van, with a couple of blokes inside it, being (literally) turned over by Swindon fans outside Mitchells Cycles after the 1-1 draw in 87.  Not sure if they were delivering bikes or were Bournmuff fans.

Lumps of concrete from the Stratton Bank was exchanged between fans during the match and a kiosk in the 'Wedge' got tuned over too.

Was it 87 ? God I'm getting old. Was on the bank next to the fence and remember the lumps of concrete flying over my head. It was going to and thro like a tennis match.
Also remember Town fans running the length of the pitch at Dean Court to get at the B'muff fans. It was only a pre season friendly and if I recall a certain Chic Bates made his debut for us that day. Now when was that I wonder ?

I am afraid I can't help with that one but I think we played them in the hot summer of 76, I was only 10 back then and not allowed to go to away friendlies but I seem to remember we played Bournemouth, Weymouth and Yeovil in a run of matched that year.

80/81....a LC fixture was the first game...away at Bormuff 9th August.  Town had the semi final v Wolvesthe previous season, so things were still on a bit of a high. Needless to say a fair few saw it as a good outing.  As as often happens v Bormuff, a lot of Town fans regard it as a bit of day trip, and like to have a few jars, which has often lead to problems.

Which is why Bormuff OB often close the pubs nearby, or the FL put it in some shitty slot in the fixture list.

Thanks Reg for confirming. It was a very hot August day for sure and Swindon had a very large following. I think the OB had to draft in re-inforcements due to the number of day-trippers that day :)

I remember the pitch invasion but it was caused by some 50 or so Town fans already in the home end. Then the "others" on the open terrace ran the pitch to join them. Maybe they were sun burnt and wanted to get under the roof :)
So many Town fans were worse for wear that day for sure.

That 87 home game I will never forget!!!

I didn't think the game would ever get started with plod getting steamed from both sets of fans on the bank and the town end was rocking.

Yes the TE was rocking that day. I believe we went 1-0 behind but equalised and it finished all square.

Got to admit to being in the home end at that Bornmuff game with a few chums - blindingly hot and full of booze.

As regards the game when there were 17 arrests - about a dozen Bornmuff 'fans' turned up at a pub where they believed there were a small number of Town 'fans' drinking and asked them out.

Unfortunately for them there were about another 25 out the back.

The LC game was interesting - fuck knows how many we had down there. I got pissed in the morning and went in the home end to be greeted by some mates from Park South. That was a very messy day - the police were hopeless. The Bormuff fans got a bit fucked over that day as we chsed them on to the pitch and then the Town fans came on from the other end. I do remember the Bornmuff fans getting a bit gobby later not realising a few of us were still in the home end.
In those days it was almost compulsory to scrap.

I remember that day well! A few of us were in the BM end and the rest of the Swindon lot came over the pitch and joined us before kick-off. The funniest thing of the day was a friend who was too pissed to do anything so he slept it off in the back of the Mark 1 Cortina in the carpark outside the ground. He awoke just before the end of the match and was set on by a load of BM fans in the carpark. We found him running around ranting about what a shit day it had been and then noticed the perfect Doc Martin impression on the front of his white T-shirt ! Oh Happy Days!!
