Perfection is not attainable

I don't. they just have better backing.

which comes back to how you define club size.
I agree.

For me it comes down to average gates recently, average gates in history, how high in the pyramid you have reached and recognised silverware.

If you have achieved more in the leagues and won more silverware in recent years then that can be considered as some extra points.

I know somewhere there is a list of how "big" teams are in the 92 based upon such things and we are about middle, Peterborough are lower as are Brentford.

history is nice to reflect on, but irrelevant to the size argument to me too
Not irrelevant as such but more recent silverware and league pyramid placing definately weighted towards being a bigger club status.

For instance Wigan...bigger than Bristol City even though in a lower league and in admin despite Wigan having an average crowd of about 1/3 of the Slavetraders in recent years.

Yep, in PV's example I'd also have Bolton as a much bigger club too. Despite now being up shit creek and two division to the bad, as well as, might I add a ground too large for purpose for several seasons now (but we could say that with many and Bradford doesn't count when you sell 10yr STs at £100 a season).

We could argue that BCFC are a club "on the up" but stagnating and BWFC are are club "on the down" but you do sense that they will bounce back eventually.

There's a list showing how well teams are doing in the here and now - it's divided up into 4 divisions and it gets updated most weeks.

But that doesn't tell you how big a club is "perceived" to be by fans/press which is what this discussion is about.

Example...we are higher than Bolton in the league but are not as big a club as them.

How big a club is always creates decent debate and so difficult to pin down.

But the we are bigger than you debate is largely pointless, especially in the lower leagues. It's akin you arguing whether your Proton Savvy is better than your aunt's Vauxhall Agila.

Also, to pick up on Brentford as they were mentioned above, I'm not sure that they are too bothered about this given where they are currently.

Who is bigger is indeed pretty pointless, especially at our level, but it was the start of the discussion so I was just continuing the discussion, after all thats what forums are about isn't it?

That's correct and I am merely offering my view. I acknowledge that not many will share it.
