I know you probably hate Yates'. But it is just at the top of the hill heading towards the ground, very near the station, and it is the away pub.

Back in the very early 70's, I used to drink in Yates' Wine Lodge in Nottingham...hard to believe, but it was a sophisticated sort of place for a good meal, a good wine, where you could take a lady.

They would have string quartets playing...that sort of thing....the one in town doesn't quite have the same ambience.

The one down town, someone vandalised a couple of urinals about 6 years ago and they still havnt fixed them (not since I last went in there 3 months ago).

And when you go in there you get texts from Wiltshire Police that are basically saying, don't go round raping any women tonight. They obviously know the customer base.

Its not even cheap most of the time.

Anyone who tries to make it sound posh by saying 'Im in the Wine Lodge' is usually a fool!

Its from Bluetooth. So if you have your bluetooth on then yes.

Its indiscriminate. All male Yates' clientele are rapists.

Yeah a few places round me need some photo id to be scanned onto their database to let you in. Ostensibly to make sure you're not known troublemaker/been thrown out before etc but its a lot of information for them to have.

No idea on what home or away pubs are. St Mary's is out of the way unfortunately.

If you walk an extra couple of minutes away from Yates' (and away from the ground) there are quite a few pubs/bars in Bedford Place.

But if you're just after a couple of pints as a pit stop before heading towards the ground to find somewhere to drink there is a pub next to the Mayflower Theatre (next to the station). Wouldn't 'recommend' it though but I expect a few people will start off there.

Start my new, new job on Monday 14th, although it's permanent nights it doesn't involve weekends so that means I can go now. Don't know wether that's a good thing or bad thing at the mo.
Couple of questions, can we pay on the day or have we got to get tickets from STFC in advance? Where is everyone going to be meeting for a few beers? Leefer?

At least this time, the possibility of me savagely bruising my arms by flinging myself in celebration onto that canvassing spread across the seats seperating the two sets of fans, is very remote

I go home through Salisbury to Market Lavington, also always drive up with my counsins who are both saints fan, all the way up to the last two games up there (3-0 in JPT, 1-0 in the League) They've been giving it how good they are and they are going to smash us... Anyone got any idea what the Park and Ride's like on a Saturday for Southampton? Went to the midweek game last season but:

a) it was midweek
b) went with a mate who's a Saints fan who found us parking in a tiny side street somewhere which I don't rate my chances of finding again

I need to be back in Swindon for 7 so don't fancy buggering around for ages after the game getting back to the car

The Park & Ride did work very well last season but bear in mind that there were only (!) 20,752 fans there, with about 1,100 from Swindon, it was a Tuesday game and Southampton weren't doing very well.

This season it will be a similar amount of Town fans there but it will be a Saturday with vastly more traffic, Saints are flying high in the table and they had 25,000 for the last home game with Carlisle.

Expect it to be a fair bit longer to get away than last season.

I've stupidly decided to go to this, the optimistic fan in me is thinking it's going to be like last season!

Just realised we played in the black kit with red socks in the jpt. At least the boys will look natty when they crumble to the inevitable defeat.

That's a fantastic effort considering how poor we've been

If I could go to this I would. Goodness knows why. Must be the memories of last season - the only person I met before the game who thought we'd win was herthab's mate... a Yeovil fan.

Yeah you are right, he did think we would win and he really enjoyed the game too.

my mate just told me that when he went down the box office an hour ago they had one ticket left from the 800 that Southampton gave us. The guy at the box office said that there will be over 1000 tickets avaliable on the day.

Out of 25-30 games I went to last season Charlie scoring the winner in that game was my moment of the season.  Don’t live far from the place, hate the team, most of my mates are Saints fans and basically doing a smash and grab on their patch was fucking beautiful for me, I thought my heart was going pack in as Charlie rounded Kelvin Davis.

A point on Saturday might feel just as good.

Swindon's League Record VS Southampton

P    W    D    L    SR%
27    10    4    13    44%

Lets hope that becomes 11 wins on Saturday

Yates is closest to the station, I would suggest heading to the Bedford Place area of town, there is a bar called Varsity there, and its next to weatherspoons for your breakfast!

Varsity has a number of big screens, and good cheap booze! its about a 10min walk from the ground.
Nearer the ground you have the King Alfred which is usually home fans only.

Apart from Yates in town, there is only realy que pasa or walkabouts further down the high street

I think i've discovered why our form is so bad. I have just realised that I have the 2 match tickets in my wallet from the games I have been to this season. (the last one was Peterborough at home) I will now remove these tickets and we'll have a superb end to the season, hopefully starting on Saturday.

Mark my words

Think I'm going to head to the South Western by St. Denys station. Went there on a non football day and said I'd go back there.
