Just to confirm that's the first time the Aussies have qualified since 1974 W Germany. They finished bottom of the group that year. I think with all the european based players they should do better this time round.
Fair play when I heard an Aussie fella scream down the phone "we've waited 15 years for this" I kinda though, erm, you waited longer than that mate, but I get your drift. Fair play to them. And good luck to them too.

Depending on their result - there's a renewed argument that they should be allowed on direct entry from that big Oceania group.
Then scrap up the leftovers (one from each of Africa, South America, North America (CONCAF?), Europe, Asia, Oceania) and put them in a knock-out competition.
Stop laying the 5th placed South American team against the winners of a whole continent. :x

I've looked at the qualifying and in Asia it's quite tricky with pre qulaifires for the likes of Myanmar etc and very few teams gettign through. But Africa is the hardest doen't even have play offs its a rela win or bust scenario. I can see the case being made that They will add 8 more teams to the finals with 8 groups of 5 because the game has expanded with renewed quality in a lot of places, see the good African teams who didn't make it this time.

Good stuff, well done Aussies. Rather them than Uraguay. As already said, it is a bit much to win you region only for the right to play the 5th placed South American team.

Winners of a whole continent? They won some of their matches 18-0 and such like. Put them in with the Asian group fair enough, but FIFA need to be fair. Why should African and European teams have to struggle for their places when the Aussies get a two match play off?
