Son was home from London to watch the first CG game based on my good feelings about this season and the general views around IH’s management of the team since taking over. Sat alongside him was a friend who was on the Town’s books as a youngster and later played for Bristol City youths. Their take on the game was both of them perplexed by the sheer lack of cohesion, team setup, players not appearing to quite know where or what they were supposed to be doing and generally muddling through the game.

I have to agree, pre-season I was fairly confident that we were on an upward path but recently not so sure, the Walsall game and to a large extent yesterday’s showed a worrying undercurrent of disjointed structure to the team, strange formations and substitutions. I know it is very early days and I desperately want to be entertained by team pushing for promotion out of this backwater of a division.

Why do people automatically think a game is a ‘thriller’ just because there were 5 goals?

Most of the game was dull as ditch water.

Because people aren't going to click on a link that says 'boring game with 5 goals'. It's all about the clicks.

I was watching this yesterday. She's very easy on the eye.

Much of the game for me was tense rather than dull, I was waiting for Cambridge to step up into a higher gear, they needed someone to make it stick up front............er, wait a minute

I mean, it was a nicely taken goal but he wasn’t immense, he just ended up antagonising some of our younger players while 3-2 down

Haven't seen any games yet but how is the goalkeeper only being allowed to have the ball for 8 seconds going?

I was keeping an eye on it on Saturday actually, looking up to the scoreboard to note the seconds when the keepers handled the ball, it was always released in time so can't say much about the officiating of the rule.

I was watching the ref and, after a few seconds his arm would go up as if to tellt he keeper time was running short.

Ripley seems to have the hang of it already. He went down to a right post ball and stopped it with his body. He lay there briefly not touching the ball then did an Al Jolson Mammy! thing as if to say "I'm not holding the ball- the count hasn't started yet". One of the Cambridge players twigged at the same time as our defence and as they both ran in to the ball, Ripley then grabbed it and stood up.

Ref has to be put his hand up to indicate he’s got to 5 & will then countdown from 5 to 0 - while also displaying the count with his fingers
