If only we could hit the target.  Something like 17 shots with 3 on target, definitely need to get some practice in training.  Nice when we can pick up a point without scoring, but can’t rely on that happening every week.   Unless it’s 0-0 !.

Harrogate got pumped 5-1 at home by MK tonight.

That game cried out for many things, but Sean McGurk was one of them. Play him at the front of a midfield three, not this deep playmaker bollocks Kennedy is trying. Kilkenny gets the ball and passes it back to the back three - who either go wide (and then the wide players play to the back 3 - Cox turned back to Freckleton a lot tonight) or go long (and we lose it). So Kilkenny is not play making - he is simply a link in a chain that goes nowhere. That’s why the game passes Butterworth and Cotterill by. They rarely get the ball to feet quickly enough, and as a unit they exert no authority on the game. We have no control.

It’s - Back 3 -> Kilkenny -> Back 3 -> Wing Back -> Back 3 -> Long -> Lose it,

Back 3 -> Kilkenny -> Back 3 -> Long -> Lose it.

That’s our pattern.

It’s a rotten system. I can’t think of any other team that plays this way, and maybe there is a reason for that.

I’m not his biggest fan but Drinan was a handful at times tonight. Aside the 40 passes out for a throw i’d keep Barden in the team for Saturday. McGregor superb.

The Tranmere goal came from a Barden lofted clearance directed to the shortest player on the field, but the through-ball that followed was inch perfect. The scorer was unmarked after a decent save from Barden.  In a microcosm what is wrong with the Town - insufficient movement going forward, while not being sufficiently alert in defence.  Barden looked comfortable on crosses, I would keep him in for Saturday, 6/10 tonight.

First half poor, second half okay. King was having a stinker and McGregor looks a cut above what we have seen in that position this season. Had some gilt-edged chances to win it in second half so a bit disappointed to come away without 3 points.

There are times in the second half when we looked the part, knocking the ball around and even creating the odd chance but at other times the passing is woeful and puts us into all sorts of trouble. Luckily Tranmere are as bad as us regarding scoring goals.

Have to say that McGregor really caught the eye once again and could be a real game changer for us given a run in the side.

Barden looks to have a great boot on him and certainly got them further upfield, although it didn't stick long.

McGregor excellent, got stuck in and showed plenty of promise with some great balls in.

Would have taken a point etc etc, needed more but looked like it could have gone either way.

McGregor was the MotM today with a score of about 6/10.

He’s got something about him, but he is not the finished article yet. We shouldn’t get carried away, as he looked good because everyone else looked shite!

Having said that, both he and Barden are the only ones who earned the right to start on Saturday.

You could play Odegaard or Bellingham in this system in place of Cotterill or Butterworth and they wouldn’t see much of the ball. Our two so-called box to box midfielders are given the role of repellent magnets.

We weren’t without merit. Barden looked fine, Drinan and Tshimanga worked their socks off, Sobowale did some good things too and McGregor had the confidence to run at his man. I just can’t get my head around the strategy. Give me Garner or Wellens ball any day of the week over that.

-   Football simple, it’s what we do in both boxes. Disappointed with the goal we conceded, perhaps for the first time this season
-   On McGregor – thought he was outstanding. Took a risk playing King, didn’t work out. When JM came on – I thought he was best player on the pitch – quick, fast, and strong. Fearless. Didn’t want throw him into an environment to his detriment, but he was excellent and v pleased for him and his family
-   As a coach, I don’t think L1 or L2 is a place to be testing players out – need to be better at that (giving young players a chance)
-   On Barden – have to make big decisions as a manager. Bycroft can feel hard done by but he has a huge future at the club. Barden’s performances in training warranted a look and he did well, on top of his performance in training and v Exeter. Head coach’s decision to do the right thing to win the game.
-   Harry Smith – unsure if he will be available Saturday. Illness so has been missing. Big player and an important part of the squad, sums up our luck at the minute.

What is he on about? he's acting like he's given McGregor his debut. He played a decent amount of games last season. Just using nonsense excuses to deflect the fact McGregor has made him look a bit silly.

From what I saw last night I wonder how many other young players we’ve got it’s worth giving a go. McGregor miles better than King. Botam scores quite a few can he be better in front of goal than Drinnan who’s scored 25 career goals at the age of 26?
