The 78-79 season was the first season I was properly into football so I remember all those players well.
Mayes and Rowland, what a fantastic strike paring.

RIP "Andy Andy Rowland". A loyal servant of the club both as a player and later in various management roles. His partnership with Alan Mayes was very much the little and large combination and a joy to watch. Will never forget the league cup run to the semi final in the 1979/80 season and particularly that magnificent 4-3 win against Arsenal, with Rowland scoring the winner in extra time. A true legend.

My all time joint favourite Swindon player. Just lucky to have met him and had a great chat. He was a true legend and played during my favourite time supporting Swindon, real sadness with his passing. RIP. |

IIRC didnt Handy Andy go in goal when Jimmy Allen had his career ending arm break in 1983 as well vs Rochdale? in goal for the entire 2nd half? |

Yes, one of my first proper memories of being at a football game as a kid. Used to pop into the Plough with my Dad later in life and he was basically one of the regulars more than a landlord. Would pop out and leave the place to them chaps at the bar. RIP Andy.
