Ah ok, not quite what I heard but not a million miles off. Proof will be in the pudding. He wants fans to back him and the team will people return?

I won't be, but it's not down to him. Saw a clip of his chat after the game in the hospitality and it seemed mostly waffle but he made *some* good points. Maybe he can get us enough points to keep us up, that'll be a good job well done.

Certainly more there on Saturday than there would have been had Kennedy still been in control.   Can’t knock the bloke for lack of enthusiasm.  Not had an excitable manager like this since Di Canio.

Ultimately he did a shit job as manager there during an uncertain period with ownership issues. Thankfully, he won't have any of that at Swindon!

Maybe we should have waited a little longer.

Ironically we had less home fans than for any league game except Newport this season, we were just over 150 down in terms of home fans compared to the Doncaster game.

It's quite possible, even likely that it would have been even lower had Kennedy still been in charge, but there was definitely no upturn thanks to a new manager.

I think it happened too late to influence attendance. The Arkells really did look sparse

I imagine announcing a ‘character’ manager who hasn’t really had any tangible success in over a decade wouldn’t have done it for (m)any…

I expect seeing his passion & him managing the game from the stand got people’s attention. Firstly to show he’s still got the passion for it and secondly because he was clearly not happy with what he saw to the point he couldn’t just sit & watch it - which is how a lot of us have felt whilst Kennedy has been praising said performances whilst quoting obscure stats to justify is completely unjustified praise.

Add to that a last minute equaliser having been down to 10 men for 80+ minutes.

….that will galvanise more people than the announcement ever did.

Next up winning a few games

.  Exactly what I said -  Certainly more there on Saturday than there would have been had Kennedy still been in control.   Dont understand what you’re trying to say.

EtH gone from Manchester United.

Time for him to fulfill every FM game's prophecy of him managing at shittier and shittier clubs until he's at Go Ahead Eagles in 2027

What I said was our excitable new manager didn’t encourage anyone to come back, but MAY have persuaded a few to give it another go

So what happened at Grimsby?
Wikipedia says:

On 27 April 2021, Grimsby were relegated back to non-League for a second time, former Mariners player and BBC Humberside co-commentator Gary Croft blamed Holloway: "He's done miles more than me in the game, Ian Holloway, but I feel like it was just a bit of a play thing, a toy for him to play with. I just can't believe that people have stood around and watched it happen, watched it unfurl without getting into him, questioning him, and finding out what's going on. He was like that all-powerful person that no-one dare question. Crazy interviews that once were entertaining YouTube viewing, and are now completely not funny. He's come here and turned this season into a disaster. I don't think this is a particularly strong league, I don't think Town needed to do an awful lot, and for a club of our size in this league, we shouldn't be down where we are."
--

In a podcast interview in late 2022, Holloway blamed his Grimsby departure on the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that his scouting network was not suited to operate at League Two level. He also stated he would be interested in a return to management but only at EFL Championship level.
