Yay, football returns to the CG this Saturday, and with our cracking start to the season I'm sure we are all looking forward to the same fast paced, attacking football that we have become accustomed to.
Newport have no chance, so I don't think they'll bring many.

Two shit teams

Let the battle of shit commence.

The ball to cannon off Jephcott's backside for a late 1-0 win.

Will be interesting to see if we have the lad from Banbury on the bench. Looking forward to seeing if Roberts can bring a directness to the game. But maybe he's not ready yet.

Honestly don't know if we are close to turning the draws into wins or defeats. Things need to settle a bit with the new lads.

so I'll go 1-1

The only game I got to see live at the CG last season - and that was shite.

Expecting an improvement on Gillingham based on nothing more than selling my soul to the devil.

He’s got to get Darcy into that team and stop being afraid to drop Reed, Gladwin or Williams to accommodate him.

The back 4 is probably set in stone now barring injuries. If he’s going to play Shade at least let him play where he can perform.

Like to see both Wakeling and Jephcott start if fit.

Jephcott needs support. He developed a good understanding with Hardie at plymouth.

He needs to play in a front 2. But we don't want to play 3 at the back and Reed apparently 'can't play a double pivot' which I find incredibly alarming.

So we are left with no choice other than the 442 diamond.

Issue with that is, you need midfielders who will work hard to help out the fullbacks in defence.

All our midfielders are happy on the ball but don't want to do the defensive side.

I'd give him a shot, match fit and his tail will be up from early season form. Might inspire some of his teammates

I'm not even sure what a "double pivot" is!

A double pivot is a withdrawn central-midfield or defensive-midfield pairing. They are positioned in front of the central defenders, inside the full-backs or wing-backs, and behind the attacking midfielders. The duo is most commonly used in a 4-2-3-1 formation, operating behind a single number 10.

ah, I see. defensive midfielders.

so we are taking 'can't do the defensive job with khan'.

I refuse to believe Reed fluked last season.

in any case there is no point in having Jephcott and sticking him up top on his own.

I know the Paul Hart 'yeah but it becomes 3' bullshit can be used to justify it, but we know.. we know..

A few posters suggesting Newport aren't very good it seems.

They sit lower in the table than us in 16th 2 wins 1 draw 4 defeats 9 goals for 10 goals against DLLLWWL in the league.

In every competition though its DLWLLWWWWL scoring 17 and conceding 15.

In the cups they
Won 3-2 away at Luton
Won 3-2 home to Pompey
Won 2-1 away at Exeter

They won 4-0 away at Harrogate as well where Town suffered their only league defeat.

So they have won 5 from their first 10 games in all comps with the well travelled Omar Bogle top scorer on 5 goals already and the rest of their goals spread between 8 players.

Its going to be way harder than league position may be suggesting.
