Hunty doesn't do balls like that very often. Brilliant.

Could be watching any other home game we’ve had this season. Slow, slow, slow, slow, slow.
If we only had a Plan B.

Felt like a reserve outing that. We really don't like having to dictate the pace of the game at home. We knock it around prettily enough, but without the urgency and incisiveness required to make the difference.
No guarantee this will go any differently than any other league game at the CG this season.

The game seems flat (compared to an away game….). Think we could do with playing the wide option, and pulling the ball back rather than cutting in as much as we go - just use Hayden and Iandolo more, and keep them wide. Fingers crossed we’ll up our game - that felt very much like “home” form.

We definately need more urgency around the box, its all a bit slow build up, not sure how it could change though it seems one of those games.

I'll get to the game, but first Hales - fuckwit. Compares a performance against FGR away, a team at the top who were going to have a go at us so we put in a good away performance where a team is more open, to a home game against a team lacking in confidence that wants to sit in. How can an ex-pro not see the two are chalk and cheese?
I'm not suggesting we played well, or didn't deserve criticism, but my god some people in football are a bit simple.
To the game - we really have a problem at home. It's not being at home so much as what we are being presented with as the other teams challenge. When we are away from home, even poor sides have a crowd willing to give them some moans and groans if they don't have a go. Away from home, a team can confidently plonk everyone behind the ball and play for a goalless draw and get applauded off. I don't think we play any differently, we just have different positions to play against as a result. In fact, that is the criticism I would have over Garner if he truly doesn't see any issues to resolve. We cannot play the same way regardless- we have to do something to give the other team something to think about or we have to be willing to try something different if a team is going to just sit off us.
In this case, I am not sure having the third centre half gives us as much as it does away from home. They are generally only sending one player up to engage with us. The pass sideways is always on as a result and we take it. If they are going to stick with that, then move someone around the pitch and get them more worried about who to mark and follow.

Instantly forgetful! Just doesn’t work at home and still far too easy to get at our defence on the turnover of possession at home. Something needs to be tweaked surely, I still think we need another man in the middle who will play alongside Reed.

It really is poor from Garner that he hasn’t managed to get his head round playing at home. Personally, I don’t think we can play any differently. The ‘style’ is so indoctrinated the players just slot in and rinse and repeat ad nauseam.
