Tom Youngs was a beast in CM01/02 for sure! I remember their fans singing "we want football" when we stuffed them at their place near the end of John Becks reign, when they were the worst footballing team ever IMO, bullying and hoofball and the dirtiest of tackles by everyone. We went there in 91/92 and won 3-0 in the FA cup and we totally outplayed them. Beck's long ball playing style, despite its success, was heavily criticised in the media, and by fans and managers of other clubs, particularly Glenn Hoddle then of Swindon Town.[3] Their style of play was similar to that of Wimbledon, who had climbed from the Fourth Division to the First in four seasons leading up to 1986, staying there for 14 years and winning an FA Cup just two seasons after promotion.[4]
I was there that day on the cold open end (cant really call it a stand back then) The petrol thing, not a clue I have been watching Town 50 years and dont remember anything about that at all.

There were two things.
First, the STFC vs Cambridge tussles in the early 1990s. Hoddle vs John Beck. Portrayed by the national press, who gave both clubs a good deal of coverage back then, as The Beautiful Game vs Long Ball Brutalism. The stories about Cambridge letting the grass grow long in the corners of the pitch were well-known. That led to some added tension when the two sides came together, as they did a number of times back then in the 2nd tier. I remember a the 4-1 win at the CG in the 1992-93 promotion season very well.
And then there was a call off a few years after that. I remember this less well. But I think Cambridge were flying high at the time. And we called the game off citing travel problems caused by fuel shortages?

Here are the details around the call off, from a Sky article 25 yrs ago. Swindon Game Called OffFor context, I think it was one of the only games called off at the time...leading to accusations from Cambridge that we had bottled it. Confusingly (and maybe someone can correct me here), the Townenders.com site shows a home game vs Cambridge around that time going ahead. We won it 3-1. Townenders: STFC vs Cambridge, Oct 2000

The only thing I can remember about paying Cambridge per 2017 is neck ache, and in the early 2000 some player called Armand Oné who was going to be the next big thing, only to end up useless everywhere except Stranrar.
I've nothing against them. They have been a bit of a nothing club before now. Maybe they are on the up, we'll see.

I mean some of the posts on this forum have been similarly deranged, lower league football fans never need much of a nudge to get into a fight over who is more tinpot/comes from the bigger shithole.
They do seem very exercised about something to do with petrol, which I neither recall nor am able to Google. Can anyone enlighten me? Assume some nonsense in the 80s when they were managed by John Beck.
fwiw I have a soft spot from Cambridge based entirely off Tom Youngs being an absolute phenom on CM01/02 and being cheap to buy.
Didn't they have Mike Duff and Jamie Victory as well. Perhaps one of the developers was a Cambridge fan. All good pick ups.

But Clem saved our club, without Clem we dont have a club, if Clem leaves the club will fold.
Some people genuinely believe that Clem is our ONLY option when that is blatantly not true and Clem also thinks hes doing a great job from what I have been told and cannot see the problems his lack of funding have created.
We need a Clem button

I remember we played them in about 2002ish on a tuesday and it was one of the worst crowds i think i've ever seen at swindon(not including tin pot cups and charity games, etc.), must have been 4,500 tops. and that is all.

Wouldn’t that have been whe the tanker drivers went on strike?
