Following on from the posts about great town free kicks, this popped up on my YouTube recommendations. He was at Palace by the time of this goal, but still good to see.

When, like Taylor's last night, a goal doesn't get you any points, then I think it detracts a bit from its value... The Fallon goal, got us a point v a despised rival, which adds to its provenance. Further I like it when a goal is framed by Town fans going ape, a terrace is good, Fallon's goal has that quality. This season, Keshi's late winner at Yeovil was decent.

I'm thought we were defining great as the individual/team skill in scoring the goal? Loads of defining goals have been brilliant and important, but not great in that definition (Invincible, RDV @ Northampton, etc).

Yep, agree. Although you can still admire the skill/artistry

That Simon Cox goal v Walsall. Took it on the half volley after teeing himself up from about 25yrds.
Thing is, and i'm sure many of you remember, he's scored an identical if not better goal in pre season v Fenerbache;
In the words of Alan Partridge. Footballllllllll! Gooooooaaaalllll! Back of the net, indeed!

Not seen the Don Rogers clip before. Masterful explanation from Jimmy Hill about the order of the goals. Something which the current MOTD team would be entirely incapable of. ESL student Shearer would struggle without being able to mention a "he's entitled to go down there".
The STFC greatest goals vols 1 & 2 are essential viewing when all things STFC related are not going too well. Preferably in work time and with the sound turned up. My two favourites are the Hoddle goal at Wembley and the keepy uppy one at Watford Also numerous reminders of how good the 03-04 team was, and under a much maligned manager as well.
Couldn't find footage of the Kerrouche free kick against Southampton. Just something about the casual way he sauntered up and smacked it into the net. Class.

Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change? Crap!

Kenny Stroud vs Everton in 1977 from easily 35 to 40 yards put.
Marlon Broomes vs Birmingham in 1997 was also a cracker.
53 seconds in, probably better than Strouds goal IMO, not bad for a centre back that only scored 5 league goals in his career of 250 games.

It’s a bit sobering to realise how many of those goals I actually saw live. Still reckon that Matt Taylor goal was the best free kick goal - and he likes a celebration don’t he!
